Bahahahaha!! I can actually see how you would mistake it from the rear! 
But from the 3 I have seen before (2 along the PCH and 1 heading North towards Ojai), you can tell the difference once you're next to them. LOL, they are fairly big (and fat) for a performance car and those little Cobalts don't look so large from the side.
I can't wait until I get back to the States. Right now Gary over at D-CraftFab is finishing up the dyno numbers (hopefully soon!) on the prototype i-vtec kit for N/A, and I'm not really sure if I want to put my turbo kit on right away..... I am honestly toying with the idea of leaving it N/A and going to a few S2K challenge events and a few RTA events before I boost the S. LOL, am I crazy for not wanting big HP as soon as I can get it??
Anyway, keep the stories coming, Paul!!! I can't wait to read about your next encounter!
