Impressed with S2Ks
Just thought I would stop by and give some Kudoes to the S2K guys.
I was out in Bowling Green, KY last week for a get together and had a chance to play with an S2K. Always wanted to run one, just to say I did and though I have seen them around, it was never where I felt safe racing. (I have done a few sprints with an NSX and either the NSX driver sucked or it just isn't all it is cracked up to be.)
Anyway, I saw this silver S2K at a light ahead of me, just about an 1/8th of a mile before the road turns onto the highway. I pulled up along side and the driver looked over, gave the car a look then gave me a big grin and a thumbs up. I did the same and montioned to the South-bound ramp.... he grinned and nodded.
Now let me say from the start that I didn't expect a whole lot from the S2K. I am putting a little over 300 to the rear wheels and over 350lbs of torque. With 4.11 gears, intake, exhaust etc, my car pulls like nobody's business.
So the light goes green and we launch, I pulled right away but not by as much as I thought I would.... WTH?
I can see this guy sticking about a length and a half, maybe 2 behind my left side. We hit the long sweeper onto the freeway and he actually gains on me by half a length or so.
We hit the freeway and I punched it, put the petal down as far as it would go and let the motor hit redline before I shifted. I was clean......no skips, no missed shifts... I just knew that Honda was long gone....
Umm.....
Not. He stayed with me, right at about a length behind but then started inching forward as we hit 100.
At that point I waved to him and let off the gas. ( I am not a real racer type and i wasn't comfortable taking the car over 100 on the streets. I have to be honest in saying it makes me a little nervous.)
I have no doubt that the S2K would have reeled me in if we had continued for much longer, his car being much lighter than my convertible and that guy sure knew how to drive that Honda. It wasn't a "Kill" for either of us but it would have been a Corvette kill for the S2K if we had kept going.
I never got a chance to talk to the guy so I have no idea what mods he had done, but as we split up, his grin was as big as mine was.
Never thought I would be challenged by a Honda, but those S2K's are something completely different from the wanna-be-racer Civics.

Thanks for sharing 82abnvet,
Do yourself a favor and go test drive one sometime. They're much more impressive when your behind the wheel.
Take a spin in a used one so you can experience VTEC from 6 to 9 k rpm. Take it through some twisties. The handling is every bit as impressive (if not more so) as the acceleration.

what year vette? does that 82 mean its a 1982 vette?
Unless that S2k was modified (which i probably was to run with a car that has an 80hp advantage over it), you could not hang with an NSX. Hate to burst your bubble, but I have beaten new corvette rag tops in my NSX, and the automatics are just funny. 300rwhp is impressive though so i assume you're not stock?
Just want to know a bit more about your car...

Hey thumbs up I love vettes! Nice to hear from fellow car guys!
The older Nsx run a high 13 second 1/4 mile.(13.8, 13.9)..the newer ones are faster and I don't see enough around to tell which is which. So beating an Nsx first couple years of mfgr are very easy in a vette. The newer ones are a different story. Its amazing what 2.0 liters can do. The s2000 will go down in the automobile hall of fame. A true drivers car!
Very cool!
