I had to go to the store and it was a cold clear night. So I decide to take the 7 for a little jaunt. It was a good decision as I ran into a yellow 04 cobra. As I passed him on the left he would not appear in my rearview. So I look beside me and sure enough he was pacing me. So I down shift and the car rocked slightly and I guess he took as the Go part from the 1.2.3...GO. He got a good jump on me about 2 cars. It took a while but I did reel him went by him (not a run more like a jog). I got about a 2-car lead on him when I shut down. We pull over and we talk a bit at Sunoco. At first he says he is stock and I don't believe him turns out he has intake, exhaust and pulley and few other knick-knacks. I let him know the mods to my car and we go our separate ways. Nice cars and nice race.

your 7 must be HIGHLY modded to do basically just a jog by a cobra...
I believe it, but you have to be runnin at least low 11's...arent the cobras a low 12?

I don't believe you...A Cobra with a full exhaust / intake / pulley is at least 450 to the wheels, more like 475...You would have to be in the mid to low 11's, especially if he had the momentum.

 

His RX7 may have a single turbo.

 

Correct. The 7 is single turbo, I am around 380 or 90 rwhp. I am not sure if the guy was truthful about his mods. I called his bluff about being stock b/c I have raced a stock cobra and I have ran from those and I just walked by this one so something was up.

Upgraded fuel pump
PFC
1600 injectors secondary
AEM ignition system
and a few other go fast goodies

I guess you could call that highly modded though I want more power but the wife says no dice yet

I am not sure what his (i.e. Cobra owner) rwhp numbers were, I have ran from a 420 rwhp camaro from about a 40 roll. The guy was pretty surprised since he "claimed" to beat modded Cobras and stock ZO6s..
