i was driving down the 2 three days ago to drop my gf off at her house. top was down and i've just filled up my gas tank.

i was driving 65-70 mph and the m3 was behind me (the model before e90). didn't notice it was a m3 until it came next to me and was pacing me for a while. i didn't bite and just kept my speed. the m3 then went WOT. nice... i thought. it was dropped and i think he had some sort of rims. the lip was too fat to be a stock rim.

my gf looked and said, "i think he wants to race you." this made me laugh. not because i believe i can take a m3 with my stock s2k w/exhuast, but because my gf noticed him pacing us and then accelerating.

the freeway was empty so why not? i wanted to see how much the mighty m3 can pull on my s2k with a full tank of gas, a passenger, and the top down.

i caught up with the guy and we were going roughly 65-70. i looked over but he didn't look over, so i gave it some gas which caught his attention. the m3 downshifted and took off with me right next to him.

the race was short. it went from top of 3rd to top of 4th. i was surprise he didn't pull harder, he was about a car length in front of me at the top of 4th. i think if i didn't have a passenger, full tank of gas, and my top down, it might have gone either way. of course the race was only from 3rd to 4th so who knows what the outcome would've been have the race been longer.

 

nice race. i have found that the mighty E46 isnt all that fast stock. i pulled a hair on a SMG E46 from a 45 roll or so. i was making 227whp at the time.

my next setup should be quite a bit faster, and in the 240whp range.

 

I like those E46's...I almost got it before the S.

 

Not calling B.S., since you've been there you know by now, but I have to see it with my own eyes before I believe we can almost hang with a E46 M3 from top of 3rd to top of 4th, especially with the extra weight you had and top down. But then again, it will be so since you had the encounter... Nice run, nice to know

 

3rd gear into 4th is strong for the E46 M3...maybe he was SMG in cruising mode, he should have pulled you more easily in that range. My M3 trapped around 107mph when it was stock and short of FI the S2000 can't hang with that. I have found that unless it's a blown S2000 then they aren't much fun in my M3. I also have a turbo S2000.

I own a modded M3 and a modded S2000...I'm assuming you also own both? My best ever trap speed in my S2000 when modded was right at 101 mph vs. 107mph in the M3. For those of you that think 6mph difference in the quarter is not significant don't know what you're talking about.
