Coming up to a stoplight earlier today, I saw a blue EVO sitting in the right lane behind a car that was on the line. There was also a car in front of me, so of course no chance for a race. However, sometimes people like to try to "ricer race" in such conditions, so I try to avoid doing anything to instigate a race when this happens.

There is a guy driving and a guy for a passenger as well. I took a glance out of the corner of my eye at them as I pulled up, and what I saw made me start to laugh. I think they take this as if I'm laughing at his EVO. But, the true reason for the hilarity is this:

I think the driver saw me coming up in his sideview mirror, and probably mentioned something about seeing my car approaching, and said something to his friend. So as I glance over, I see the passenger leaning over the driver far enough that it looked like his hand was on the driver's nuts, and he'd just finished giving him road head. Not to mention the fact that the driver was kinda leaning back almost looking "satisfied". It was funny as hell, and so I started laughing.

Well, he took this as some form of "challenge" I guess. The light turns, and the 2 cars in front of us start to go. He accelerates right away, right to the bumper of the car in front of him. I don't look over, and merely accelerate like normal keeping some distance.

The car in front of me then turns into a left turn lane, and the EVO zips up and moves in ahead of me. I am behind him through the next light, and eventually we are around traffic, so I move over to get next to him. We are coming up on a light that is red, however, I think it may turn green before we get a chance to stop. I put the car into 1st, and we slow down. 20mph. 15mph. And the light turns green. Immediately I hear his revs jump as he slams into 1st gear to take off. I dump the clutch and floor it as well.

through 1st gear I pull maybe a half a car. Through 2nd I'm starting to slowly walk away from him. Into 3rd, and now I'm pulling even more. Shut down at 80mph and he's maybe 4 cars back. After that, he drives by and I give a thumbs up. His friend flips me off instead.

 

Man I wish I could line up with a S2000. Seems everyone I see always takes off when I can't chase or they will only race if I have 4 people in my car.

Nice kill on the EVO. You can't hold anything against the EVO owner for his buddy. More than likely hes living his street racing life through his buddies car.

 

Man you do meet more than your fair share of tossers. Are they specially bred up there in Wisconsin?

I hope the gear shifts loosin up on my evo (it has 400 miles on it) as each gear change takes a while to syncro in. Theres no way I could shift nearly as fast as you did in your vid.

Did he have any mods that you could hear?

With the mods in your sig it wont be much of a race unless the S2K is FI

The tranny is a bit notchy on EVO's. Kinda like a bolt action rifle or something. I'm sure I'd probably have a problem going from a Honda tranny to one, but I went from a 03' Cobra so it feels kind the same. Shifting gets better once you get rid of the stock clutch. I my Exedy.

It seemed with the stock clutch I was more prone to miss 2nd gear. I haven't missed 2nd (or any gear for that matter) since my Exedy was put in.

 

Nice run! I have been waiting forever to run some more stock-ish EVOs.

The only one I have ran was cammed/stg?/fmic/tbe and well, put 6 about 6 cars on me.

 

man, if you guys think evo trannies are notchy, try the gorilla going thru a turnstyle that is the sti 6spd.

btw, if the evo was at a 15mph roll he should've had no prob rippin thru there.

i swear, this is the only place you can find stock evos racing anyone.
i thought when you took posession of an evo, it was contracted that you do cams, reflash, exhaust just so they can void your warranty and you can run low 12's?

 

True.....so true. THey even make you watch a video of cam installs, 6500 rpm clutch drop, auto cross vids, and they even show you how to turn the boost up.

 

Nah I hold nothing against the EVO owner. He wasn't the one who flipped me off. lol.

 

He had a BOV, but other than that I have no idea.
