Default Lost to an RSX-S - A bit long

Sorry its a bit lengthy.

Yes. I did. I feel that I have shamed my car. Though I gotta give it up to Peter (the RSX-S), you could look him up on Club RSX, great driver, nice car, best of all--nice guy.

I have my car now for almost a year. Never attempted to street race before prior to buying my MY2001. 5700 miles on the odo and been very happy with it.

To give you some history on my car. The first time I ever ran it was around 800 miles on it. It was against my friend's modded '99 prelude. It was on a roll to about 80-90 I pulled about a car on him. Second time was also with another friend with a chipped VW 1.8T and full exhaust. Pulled about 1-2 cars depends on who's story it is; this was over 6mos. ago. So overall, I am pretty happy with my car's performace regardless if I needed better driving skills or mods.
Back to my RSX encounter....My friends and I were hanging out at Deer Park in Long Island, NY and met a Club RSX member, Peter. Very nice guy. We all just talked cars and checked out the street scene. It was pretty dead and many cops were around so we decided to go to a secluded area and run each other. Peter wanted to run against me because he had never ran with a s2000. I was reluctant, but ended up agreeing anyway. This was the first time I will run against someone I did not know. I was pretty excited. He had a nice blue RSX and showed us his mods, he had a 3-inch downpipe, no cat, and 2 1/4-inch exaust system--I beleive it was from Magnaflow, and a Injen intake. This car was HELLA LOUD!! So we ran twice....

1st run: Lost
I over-revved on 2nd and my engine cut-off. He knew it and said to try it again...he was really cool about it.

2nd run: Lost
Please don't ask me how I was driving but I bassically tried to shift around 8500-9000 rpms but he seems to pull on me every time I shift...I thought it was weird. Don't really know. Bottom-line, we raced to about 100mph and lost. I thought that I should have started pulling at 80-100mph but I just stayed on his rear bumper. Either way it was a great run. Props to Peter.

He tells me he has racing experience (not to take anything away from the race or make excuses...he beat me, period). Afterwards we talked for another hour and just asked him about driving skills and maybe pick-up some. It looked like he knew what he was doing behind the wheel, he also beat my friends modded Prelude--whom I thought was a really good street racer--by a car length also. Got it first hand as to how driving skills will decide a race. Hey, I bought the my car because it was a roadster. With that I am happy.

Please don't flame me on this...that's just how it turned out. Perhaps give me some feedback, knowledge, or advice as to do better (if possible) next time because I don't really know how the s2000 should perform against and RSX-S. Let me know... Thanks for reading.

As long as you get a good launch, you should be able to stay in front of him. What RPMs are you dumping the clutch at?

Did you race from stop or roll? From what I heard S2k is little hard to launch you have to be on certain sweet spot rpm to get a good launch. Correct me If I'm wrong guys?

I don't think I was getting good launches though we did it on a roll--about 20mph. I was shifting between 8500-9000 rpms. I have a MY2001 Silverstone/Red.

Don't really know what may have changed the outcome...the car or my driving. My first assumption was that RSX-S was just real fast--again, I'm not a pro or anything. That car seems to be wicked fast with just those mods or I'm just slow.

I shift as soon as I see the first blink of yellow on the tach at redline....this is pretty much the closest you can come to hitting the rev limiter without actually pegging out. From 20 to 100 mph, shifting early could have cost you that car lenth...just my speculation though, I was not there.
BTW, way to be a good sport about it.

Thanks bryons2000, just trying to be honest.
Perhaps there are flaws as to how I drove my car. I am not really a very aggressive with my car, I hit V-TEC only on occasion. In hindsight, I feel as though that my aggressiveness and timing was not at optimum level that is deserving to street race the s2000 (again not to take away anything from Peter, the RSX-S, I still lost). I only drive my car on the weekends for some spirited cruising in the highways to meet friends and all. My passenger during this encounter did tell me that I was not hitting the gears well. Overall, I still love my car and to think that the last 2 weeks or so I was seriously thinking of selling or trade-in my car because I was laid-off. Luckilly I have just got an offer for a new job and have decided to keep my car.

Peterpan,

That's what he called it. It is basically a 3-inch piping attached to the stock exhaust manifold down to the 2.25-inch exhaust system, NO CAT!! The system is from Magnaflow. Thanks for the advice though, it will take some getting used to, but I will practice.

Just to add some more information on this encounter...This guy was cool and all so I did not think that he was giving my any BS about his car. He tells me that he went toe-to-toe with a Carrera4 to 160mph! and stayed DEAD EVEN!! So immediately I thought that there was something special about his car. But other than the intake and exhaust system, I did not see anything else he had, not that I asked him or anything, he told/showed me what he had on the RSX-S. Is this possible? Without FI or NOS? Thanks again.
