M coupe vs S2000
I previously posted this on honda-tech.com -- I figure it should be interesting to see any responses from fellow (remember I own one too) s2000 owners.
I had a chance yesterday to run a member (who will remain nameless unless he speaks up) of this board's silver/red S2000 in my silver/blue 99 M coupe.
We went three times, basically even from the launch as I found it nearly impossible to hear my own motor with an s2000 at 7000 revs right next to me
He launched relatively well two of those times and can drive well enough to mash the gas and shift gears thereafter -- so no whining about driver skills or launches.
Each time I steadily pulled away and put 10 (revision -- he indicates it was more like 6) or so cars on him up to around 120 -- this being a guesstimate because as we all know objects may be closer than they appear in your mirror ...
He did perform a flyby on the second run, whereupon he proceeded to give me the flashers. Riceboy.
Oh well, his car only has 1500 miles, we will try it again at 6k miles and see if it's any closer.
I for one believe it will be closer with more miles on his stook -- also, if we raced to 150 he would win ... as the M coupe tops out at 137

6-10 car lengths?! Wow. Make sure you do this again once the engine is broken-in. And try some from a roll and a hwy drop. We all know launching ain't all that in this car.
You forgot to mention if any mods have been done on either car.

M3 or M5?? I don't know why the S2000 would feel bad losing to either car. They are incredibly fast and a good driver can give a C5 a run for it's money and sometimes beat it. Don't feel bad losing to some of these. Wait, sorry, just noticed it's not an E46. I guess that changes things.
My 99 M coupe = M roadster with a hardtop. Same motor as the E36 M3, less weight.
The 01's have the new M motor putting out 315hp and have been running high 12's stock.
Mine is stock save for suspension work and Kumho V700's -- I was half soft in back and running 30PSI -- but like I said my launches were bad as I could hear nothing, we were dead even from the launches.
This experience (coupled with an earlier kill a few months back and my subsequent purchase of an s2000) confirmed my earlier suspicions that people claiming to badly beat M coupes with their s2000's were actually racing the Z3 Coupe, not the M. The Z3 coupe's run a bit slower than the Stooks -- high 14's and to the untrained eye look like the same car.

and the gills on the side with the silver streak through them. Not to mention the dual exhaust! I almost bought an M roadster a in '99 and didn't for a variety of reasons. It wouldn't surprise me if either the coupe or the roadster took a s2000 in a standing start.

Haha no. I have no need to make myself feel better by beating s2000's -- I think they are fantastic cars as well -- and I own a 01 Spa Yellow.
The launches were about equal, 6 cars or more is accurate -- the coupe just has more horsepower. (And Speedy knows how to drive). The last time I raced an s2000 it was about the same, after a while I figured he had given up so I shut down --- then came the flyby.
Figure I would have put another 2 on him with a good launch on my end and a crappy one on his. The stook just aint a drag car.
If this rains on your parade I am sorry -- they are both great cars -- no harm is intended with the story.
