Relatively empty 280 freeway late last night. White MkV GTI, had regular plates (mention this to suggest that it had at least SOME break-in and wasn't fresh off the lot). Appeared bone stock. Mine is CT SC'd stock boost. I used to have a Mk2 GTI back in the day.. not that has anything to do with anything just thought I'd throw that out there.

I didn't want to race. Honestly I didn't. But after 3 fly by's I couldn't resist any more. We went from 60 (I was in 3rd, not sure about his car, or even if it was a stick or DSG) to 120. He just kept getting smaller, guessing 5 carlengths maybe more? It was dark and I watch the road at 120mph not my rearview. We did it again, with the same result. Driver gave me a and got off at the next exit.

You have a SC and only pulled that much? Are the new gti's that fast?

You're SC and you only got 5 cars, i would expect that stock i think they weigh more and have only 200hp with moderate tq. anyway just wait till you meet a modded MKV

 

5 cars? did you go 3 to 6th? new flog=slow. 15.3's at best.

 

GTI are cows unless highly boosted.

 

 

but then again that theory applies to all "slower" cars.

As I said, it was night and at 120mph I'm not spending much time staring at the rearview. I am certain that his headlights continued to get smaller and smaller the entire run. I'll also be the first to admit that while reasonably fast, a SC'd S is not a F1 car.

Yes, I'll be scouring the streets for this encounter... except not so much.

 

good run. my friend had a GTI 20th AE. just a chip and he was making 220? whp... kinda crazy.
