Post Mercedez SLK 350

I was headed home from Miami Beach and I noticed in my rear view mirror a new Mercedez Benz SLK 350 cutting in traffic, it was a young kid with a passanger. As he was passing me he paused and matched my speed and followed to rev at me several times. My girlfriend just looked at me and smiled, I said "oh well I really don't know how fast those new little cars are but I can give him the run of his life". To make the story short, the kid was pissed by the end of the run because as he took off I drafted his ass from 40 MPH to 65 MPH then moved over and passed him nicely. As I was pressing the brakes to slow down due to traffic ahead he gets next to me again and looked pist as hell, like if someone just violated him or something. How are this SLKs running? I don't think they are that fast, are they?

I think the one to watch out for is the AMG version which has a nice V8 under the hood. So little of a car with suck huge engine, the balance must be crappy.

Auto from a roll... should hang pretty close to s2000 though if you're stock. Maybe we should be around 1 car in front?

I pulled 2 cars on one from a roll when I was completely stock a couple months ago. The guy who got pulled had the same reaction as the above individual. Good stuff.

According to the mags, SLK350 (thay are all autos) is quicker than an S2000 in a straighline ... in particular once on the move. Here are the results from Road&Track where they recently tested the S2000 and SLK350 at the same time/place.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/downloa..._data_panel.pdf

To 60mph they are very close, but after that the SLK350 seems to have a noticable edge. Look at it's numbers:
- 0-60mph = 5.5sec
- 0-100mph = 12.9sec
- 1/4mile = 13.8 @ 103.9mph

The S2000 is lucky to dip bellow 14sec to 100mph ... in this test it managed a very respectable 13.8sec.

I'm pretty sure the SLK350 can be had with a 6-speed manual.

Yeah. There IS the 6-speed manual. I've driven one. The 13.8 sec in the magazine was achieved in a 6-speed. It'll be really close betweena 7-sp SLK 350 and S2000. (I almost was going to say it's a drivers race, but then it doesn't take any skills driving an automatic.)

Yes, you're right ... I did not realize you guys got the manual version as well. We only have the 7-speed automatic. Though, the straiglhine numbers that the automatics manage are more or less in the same ball-park. If anything, the automatic looks quicker to 60mph.

Thanx, it was weird she was not bitchin about me wasting gas since Im a bum now.

In the beginning she use to get super hyper about racing but I was always trying to act a little civil and grown up. One day she pissed some guy on a Carrera off by waving bye to him, he took it to heart and dusted my ass. I punished her that night for trying a car I can't hang with.
