Decided to go for a drive the other night. Top down temps were in the high 60's it was great weather. Compared to the 99-103 its been during the day the past few weeks I'll take it. So I'm getting ready to head home and I pass by this old early 90's 5.0 mustang at a crossroad. I begin to slow a bit and eventually he catches up to me. I turn onto the two lane hwy ahead. He follows. I'm just cruising and he decides to pull up next to me and blip the throttle. From this I can tell he def has exhaust and almost thought I heard a supercharger, but it must have been his intake. It just made this sound similar to a supercharger and it was mean. So I'm like ok, drop from 6th to 4th around 60mph. Well as soon as I do he floors it. So do the same but I realize I am not in VTEC and he pulls on me a bit. A car just pulled into my lane from the on ramp so I switch lanes and now that VTEC is engaged I am right on his ass. Seeing how this is pointless and not wanting to put innocent people in the way I back off until we roll by the cars entering the hwy. So now I'm not so scared seeing how I was right on his ass. His bark is just worse than his bite. We get by the two cars and I'm doing 50 he is a car or two ahead. I drop into third this time and accelerate beside him. I'm now at 6k and doing around 60mph. So I honk three times. I got a slight jump on him, then I hear his car begin to scream, I shoot out the hole and just pull on him bad all the way into 4th. I look back and he is at least 5 cars behind me. He may have given up but I don't know. So we come to a light where the hwy ends and he compliments my car and apologized for jumping on me the first time. I said thanks and asked what he had done. He said"Cams, heads and exhaust" I don't know if he was BSing or what cause if he had that stuff I probally wouldn't have killed him so bad, unless like I said he gave up?? So I at least know he had exhaust and some kinda intake I'm guessing(the noise). His girl was also in the car with him. LOL It was my first kill. Don't know if it was a good one, but I was happy to take down a V8 with my little 4cyl. He was cool too so it's all in fun. One thing I have learned from this is you really need to start out in VTEC to get maximum performance.(obviously lol) I am learning the gears better and what gear I need to be in at a particular speed to put me in VTEC. Now I need to go find that pesky hatch and get some revenge. LOL

good kill! i hate 5.0's, unless of course they are running a turbo then they are fast as hell. those are one in a million though. i ran a 5.slow in my 02 and just mopped the floor with him! i believe the cam, heads, blah. those motors are 220 horse stock. and 5.0 are portly at 3400 lbs! non the less sweet run.

 

Seriously, if you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, why make shit up?

They were in fact < 3000 pound cars and don't need "turbo" or as I am sure you would reply next "naws" to beat S2000's.

Nope, even stock 5.0's could be 14 second cars depending on the configuration and the year. This at a time in the 80's when Honda was offering us what exactly?

in any case.. good kill, but my friend had a 5.0 and from what i remember, it was pretty fast especially for a car in the mid 80's, so i totally back what steve c is saying about the stang..
