Default more evo v. s2k

Ok so my bro's stock evo8 is a little more broken in (I think 7k miles) and I have 70k on my 01 s2k (aem cai + vafc = I dynoed at 209 on a dynojet).

Some backgroud on comparisons with a stock s2k: My bro had a stock s2k (before the evo) with 20k miles and I would 80% of the time have about 2 cars on him by 100 mph.

Here were the races between me and his evo:

we went once from 10-100: from the start it was ugly. He pulled and pulled and pulled. Conclusion: Get FI.

20-100: ugly again but he stopped pulling once i hit about 60, he was still ahead by a car or a car and a half by the time we hit about 100. Conclusion: evo better than slightly modded s2k from pre vtec roll.

30-100: the first two times we ran he was ahead by 1/2 car at around 100. The last couple of times I beat him by about a car. so its a drivers race b/w stock evo and slightly modded s2k with the edge going to evo over stock s2k.

35-110: Interesting...i was at about 7k when we went (about 4 times), I would instantly pull (torqueless wonder my a$$) and in second gear he would pull even and take the lead by 1/4 car. Third I would pull and be about a car ahead by the time we shut down 110 ish. We did this 3-4 times and everytime the result was consistent. Conclusion: drivers race b/w stock s2k and stock evo with edge going to slightly modded s2k over evo.

Any race from 40+ and the s2k was in optimum gear would prob be s2k's win as long as the race went over 100. If you arent in the right gear FORGET ABOUT IT.

We both agree that racing from a roll from 0-30 to 100+ the evo would be ahead of most stock or slightly modded s2ks until after 110 where the s2k would gain ground fast. From a LAUNCH we BOTH agree that a S2k has NO SHOT of catching up until way after 120.

There you go guys...enjoy! Hope this answers some question...

I'm guessing from a stop the EVO would be victorious, right?

Anyway, good write up.

second to last sentence says in CAPS that there is no way a slightly modded s2k catches up with the evo until 120+ (unless the evo driver is a granny shifting, non double clutching...yada yada)

I bet if you live in SoCal (and other states with 91 octane), you won't have hard time running a stock EVO on a rolling start.

IL has 93 octane, does that matter? What would be the optimum gear 1st? 2nd? Is CAI really worth it?---- Anyway thanks for the info. I was bout to play with one and the guy prolly got scared and pulled a "u-ee"

Give it just 2 more months and all these comparisons can get thrown out the window...by then you'll have a hard time finding a stock Evo...they respond good to mods..and people are aware of it..so yeah race them while their still stock.

A stock EVO on 91 octane put down about 210-220 awhp on a dyno jet while those on 93 octane can pull from 225-240 awhp.

how come the mitsubishi site says the evo only has 120 hp, and only weighs about 100lbs lighter, so how can it pull?

Naws! The evo III has NAWWWSSS!

J/k

That 120hp is based on the regular Lancer, a POS. The EVO III is a totally different animal.
