Default Mustang dropped

Well coming home today from doing some errands I'm on some back roads I know very well clsoe to my neighborhood. A car in front of me pulls off (she was doing 30 in a 40). I pick up some speed to around 45-50ish and this black mustang 80's model (the boxy one) starts tailgating me then shifts to neutral and revs. This went on a few times. At first I paid no attention.
Finally I was like ok, the road was clear and the roads are nice and twisty. I'm in 4th and slowly start to accelerate, then stomp on it still in 4th. Yes, I know I should have downshifted but I really didn't care. I thought he would have been close due to drafting. I came around a corner and then gunned it (still in 4th) for a strait away and then hits some more turns. I looked back and he was something like 6-7 car lengths behind. I felt like that was enough cause I was doing something like 100. Sure enough he goes back to tail gating me. Whatever I take the next left near my home and as he passes once again shiftsd to neutral and revs he, then peels off.
Not sure what he had done, obviously exhaust but for the rest I don't really car. Either way I had some fun.
My only performance mods are comptech intake and test pipe. Top down and trunk full of groceries (they were fine, nothing breakable).

those year stangs can make some good power with just basic bolt ons if in good condition and well driven. straightline they can be low 13s with gears and bolt ons. pretty impressive

but they handle like pooooo. haha one of the worst handling stangs around. but they have good potential to handle extremely well if alot of work is done

good kill

that wasn't a kill. The car started behind you, stayed behind you, and you don't even have any idea if they were even making any attempt at all to keep up.

There's obviously no shortage of people who have no first-hand knowledge of Mustangs yet are willing to talk out their ass all day about them. They'll even argue with you about how their second and third hand reports trump the comments of anyone who's actually owned one or two.

What are you blabbing about? I never said this was a kill, just an amusing encounter and yes they were trying to keep up.

yeah lol I was. Sorry to come off a bit harsh. Your post wasn't out of line. It just gets old reading and hearing about how crappy a stock inexpensive V8 sport coupe handles from people who in 99% of cases have never owned one, much less any fast car at all. I've heard it all, yet people who see and ride in my car never complain about those things. They all say they were impressed with the car, and that it was far, far better than they thought. There's a whole lot of bad press, but very little first-hand experience for a car that is fairly ubiquitous.

I also don't know why someone thinks being in front at the end of a curvy road means squat about the other car.

lol hey no worries man. my one friend used to own a blown 5.0 mustang. ran mid low 12s. he sold it and bought a 89 firebird formula with the L98 350. full bolt ons and it goes mid 13s. suspension is mainly stock. he tells me all the time how much better the formula handles over that 5.0, but that 5.0 was sure quick.

everyone i know that owns 5.0s say the handling isnt great although not bad. i have yet to ride in one, but know my Irocz with full suspension mods so far handles exceptionally well on the stock tire/wheels and better than fox bodies. 1/4 mile is a close race in the 80s but handling on the road course, the irocz and formula/trans am take the win

well, I'm a past fox body owner, and I'll say they handle quite well if you've replaced the stock tires, shocks and brakes like you should for any car as needed. Those are usually the last thing anyone does when they buy an older car, much less a Mustang. I usually see them running around on either drag radials or cheap store brand all-seasons. You can't really take the opinion of someone like that when it comes to "how does the car handle?"

Given my perspective after having driven tons of different cars hard, fox body cars handle quite well, and are very predictable as they lose traction. Even the newer SN95 cars are easy to control at the limit even if they are a bit heavier than desired. A ~2500 lb. stock 82 GT is a very tossable blast to run hard. Probably wouldn't dethrone any Vettes at autocross, but basically like a V8 Miata hatchback. Much more fun than a Miata because you have enough power to hang the rear out using the throttle alone.

No_Really...You get too touchy about mustangs. Knock off some of the fanboiism as it's no better than the S2K, Z, G35, EVO, STI fanboiism that is displayed by others...
