Which Mustang, I wonder?
If you were on a closed racetrack with a stock boost Comptech SC w/ AC with 4.57s, which iteration of the current mustang would stay even in a straight line from 70mph-130mph....
Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I'd guess it was a stock Mach 1 or a bolt-on GT.

if by "current generation" you mean 05+, then a V6 base model would probably be the culprit.

seriously, if you spent that much money on your "friend's" car, can't you go to something like Ford.com and look them up yourself?
A GT500 would tear your paint off, especially at that speed given the power advantage. If that's what it was, he was just taking advantage of you to make good time where he was going without having to risk arrest by being the first car a cop would see coming at that speed. I've done that more than once myself. So either a GT500 not pushing it hard at all, or a modded GT. Not really a whole lot of choices, but I'm sure you knew that.

Stock Mach 1? Laughable. I pulled quite a few lengths on a modded(only saw exhaust) Mach 1 in my stock Evo. I've seen the the time slips for those things and they don't break into the 12's without a few bolt-ons and drag radials. A "theoretical" geared and SC'd S2k would have no trouble with a stock Mach 1. I have seen the '03-'04 Cobras run mid-high 12's though, so that would be the most likely suspect.
A stock Mach 1 is making roughly the same power as a "stock" boost Comptech SC kit but with a better powerband. The S2000 having steeper gears would give it more of an edge, along with the weight, so I don't really think a stock Mach 1 would run neck and neck with the OP's car, but there isn't really a stock Mustang that would run totally even.
And if the other car was charging up hard, you certainly aren't going to stop their pull without quite a bit more power. If you have enough acceleration to match speeds with the other car going balls out faster than you, you would have enough power to pull away with authority. On the other hand, if the other car wasn't going all out when you hit it, all they'd have to do is dip into the throttle a bit more to stay on your tail. If you can't pull away, you don't have any more than they do and you don't have any idea what they have left.
