my encounter with a Z at last....

No you can't (at least not without over-reving the engine). The Zed will pull 61.5mph in 2nd gear when at redline/rev-limiter (ie. 6,600rpm). In order to do 65mph in 2nd gear in the Zed, you'd have to rev it to 7,000rpm ... which the car will not allow you to do.
ps. The Zed reaches lower speed in each gear compared to the S2000 (that is except for the 6th).

from the other z drivers i've heard, they can still drop 2nd up to 65mph. i don't personally. i'll drop it 2nd at 60mph, 3rd at 70mph. to each their own.
heffergm, i understand the purpose of downshifting. you don't have to explain it to me. really, it's not pointless to drop it to 2nd at 60mph.
one thing that i'm still trying to figure out with this story is
"then he suddenly slowed down
i slow down, and he flashes his beams, and passes me". i don't get what the z driver was trying to do there..... ricer flyby?
uh, guy? don't tell me what i am or am not able to do in my car. i own the bloody thing, i drive a Z. no offense.
I've got one parked in my garage as well, but that makes no difference to the speed that the car can reach in each gear. The speed-in-gear is not something that varies from car to car ... it is the same for every Zed that is manufactured (that is until Nissan changes the gearing). If that's not good enough for you then look at the speed-in-gears in here (ie. from a Road&track article) ... go to the bottom:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/roadte...arison_data.pdf
The speeds taken directly from there for the Zed at 6,600rpm (ie, redline/cutout) are:
- 1st gear = 38mph
- 2nd gear = 61mph
- 3rd gear = 88mph
- 4th gear = 112mph
- 5th gear = 146mph
- 6th gear = 155mph (@ 5,700rpm)
really, it's not pointless to drop it to 2nd at 60mph.
Well, in the Zed you will be right under the red-line/cutout when you do that, and in the S2000 you are close to the redline. So it's not really something you should do in either car.
ps. The above applies to the manual ... have you got an automatic as that has slightly taller gearing?

DavidM, why do you keep calling the bloody thing: Zed
lol, I keep on forgeting that in the States you guys pronounce "Z" as "Zee" :-) Here wa pronounce it as "Zed" and hence that's what the car is referred to by the local mags.

shiriGTR, maybe they did have the TS ECU reflash. like i said, i've never personally dropped it 65mph. and it doesn't require a "heavy mod" to raise the rev limiter. it's just stupid to do so without _doing_ some mods on your Z first. not necessarily going FI either.
