So I'm heading around town looking for clay to Zaino my car tomorrow and this Eclipse spyder ends up behind me. I know he's got something other than stock under the hood cause I noticed his hood pins in my rear view. Anyway I said to my buddy I bet this guy tries to get us to race and he looked and me and was like hell yeah he will. anyway we're on a one lane road (each direction) and he's behind me about 2 miles before I make a right onto a 2 laner. We pull up to a light and he nods at me and revs the engine. I look at my buddy and he says 'Go for it man you got him'. So I launch at 7000 or so RPMS, and I get traction right at the green while I hear his tires spin to hell (I thought for a second I didn't have traction). I pulled a half car length ahead as I hit VTEC in 1st and knew I had him as I had a full car length by 2nd and was gonna be in VTEC from here on. Then I hear this pfffft from his car - the mother er had nitrous...he got maybe a 1/4 car length back before I hit 3rd and it was all over from there - I just kep pulling ahead despite him hitting his nitrous 2 more times (it was like he was trying to tell his car to go faster by hitting the nitrous)...I couldn't believe it - I don't know what else he had under the hood but I ended up spanking his ass with about 3 car lengths by the time I was at 4th gear at 86 MPH. I then eased up because of traffic and headed right. He followed me but embarrased by his loss stayed way the hell back from me

Sounds to me more like he had a turbo - the blowoff valve gives a big "pffft" in every gear, which would make sense (three shifts during the race).

Just as a sidenote, hoodpins don't mean the motor is modified.

Maybe he was purging during the race!!!
I think F&F movies have given too many people the wrong impression on how it really works...
that sound was no doubt a BLOW OFF VALVE!

Yeah I had just shifted to 4th before I had to slow up. I know the 3rd top end is 90 but I try to keep my shifts at 8500 - usually by the time I see the 8500 and shift I'm closer to 9000!

if the race ended at 86 or so, it hadn't even begun hehehehe, but perhaps his turbo would have helped him catch up on the high end. nice run!

Yeah it was a short run - we both had to have known it would be because there was a very major intersection at the next light (I don't know exactly how far), but it was fun either way. I don't know if his turbo would have helped much since he really lost ground in 3rd gear (rather than making any up), but you never know. In any case it was fun, and most importantly about as safe as you can be when doing something like this (no cross roads between the light we launched from and the next light, no traffic until the next light). While I don't advocate this as I said it was fun to finally get a kill in my S (albeit an eclipse I know, but I'm new to it all so a good place to practice right?). anyway be safe all!

Well, since you didn't answer my question, I still don't know if I know the guy, but if its the one I do know, then he's not fast...
