So I am coming home from a nice 1.5 hour tour of some beautiful country backroads after work, and I come across a blue Z06 a couple cars in front. His plate said 'ZQUIK06', which I thought was 'eh' for a Z06 plate. Not too long after spotting him, the cars between us turn off and I am right behind. Right after the first light we both throw turn signals on to get on the expressway. We both take the on ramp pretty hard, but nothing too intense. We are about 1/8 mile before we have to merge and I am floating around 7k in 2nd (his engine was buzzing pretty high as well). I knew he was going to gun it, so I prepared myself. He switches lanes to pass the car in front, but doesn't punch it. After he passes the other car, his rear squats a little and he takes off. I was ready. I wound out the rest of 2nd, then 3rd, then....er 6th! My misshift left me droning and the Z06 starting putting bus lengths on me. Aaaaaahhh, after a whole afternoon of perfect rev-matching downshifts, I screw up a simple upshift!! I never had a chance with the 'Vette, but I felt like I did not represent the S well. I caught up not too long after and we ended up taking the same route off the expressway. We had fun on the off ramp....I stayed right with him the whole time and it sure looked like he was pushing it. Should the S be able to stay with a Z06 in an on/off ramp situation?? We finally merge back on the main road and both wind out our gear and brake hard, nothing big. I ended up following him for a few more miles then said bye.

All in all I was impressed with my S's speed, but more so it's roadholding ability. Sorry to misrepresent the S fellas/ladies. And to the 'Vette owners, our cars are slower than yours, but not that slow.

100mph vs. 115mph traps in the 1/4 is a pretty big difference if you asked me.

As far as the handling goes, a Z06 will outhandle a S on a road course.

 

Lol, believe me its not even close if he was pushing it he would have killed you. If anything he was just messing with you, from a roll the Z06 is a beast. The S2K would have to be turbo'd or SC'd to even have a chance.

 

Anything can happen on the street, but stock for stock the Z06 will own an S2k something terrible. We're talking football fields.

 

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. The Z06 home is on the freeway. No way a semi stock S can hang.

I guess you are. The Z06's are sick! My old 400whp S had a difficult time keeping up, especially a well driven Z. It is still a lot of fun playing with the big boys .

 

Maybe I used a bad choice in words here. They do make it sound like I think I had a chance. I was just b/c I drove my S about as fast as I drove my Civic. Bus lengths, football field lengths; I said he destroyed me, can I take my suit off now?
