Default Need tips to run against 540

My friend has a 01' 540 Stock-Steptronic and we planning to run tomorrow.

Any experience/tips you can share? I have seen him smoking 02' Maxima -Stickshift....

From a stop, the obvious "know how to launch."

From a roll, you should pull away from him. Just shift fast and start in the high rpms.

1. the 540 has 282HP vs. 240 for the S2000.
2. the 540 probably weighs 1000 pounds more.
3. the 540 in "sport" trim has bigger/heavier wheels and some other options adding more weight to it.
4. even from a "moderate" launch, you should not lose....once you hit triple didigts, you will/should walk it.

coincidently, i "raced" a 4.4 X5 friday evening....he came ever so close to my back bumper (tailgating) as i was in the left lane (going 120, but obviously not fast enough for him)........i was in sixth and i downshift to 4th, and floor it......he was getting left back pretty quickly....

i know it's not a 540, but the 4.4 X5 has the same motor and is pretty close to the weight of a 540.....it's the only recent encounter that came to mind.......

The 540 6 speeds would run low 14's...

-Steve (who now and then has one as a loaner and can attest to their ability to lay 20 feet of rubber on both sides shifting from first to second).

I ran a 540i when my RX-7 was a tt...and the 540 did not fade as quickly as I would have liked...

My tip would be don't run him at a roll with highway speeds... those things are mean up top.
