New S2000 owner: Check this out....
I'm a new member of this forum and recently purchased a 2001 white/red S2000 after test driving one at a dealer the prior week. I remember when these cars were first built. I was in my 20's and couldn't touch the $32,000 + $6,000 "market adjustment". I paid $19,500 for my '01 and it was worth every nickel! After the test drive I was instantly hooked and knew these cars were special....
One week after the purchase of my new pride and joy (last week), my buddy and I were leaving his office after a team meeting for school and a most unfortunate incident took place. I offered to buy him dinner and when he pulled up next to me in his Acura feeling frisky I had to put my foot in the gas for a little "fun". I passed him and hit about 80 *briefly* in a 40 mph zone. About a half mile later I thought someone had been in a bad accident because I heard screaming sirens. My other buddy following us said he saw two cops make a hard "U" with smokin' tires! OOPS! I was about to get a ticket. One of Plano, Texas's finest asked me if "I realized a few young kids had been killed in an high speed accident that morning", and "If I saw two cars racing". I'm not one to argue so I didn't offer up much..
Upon his return he asked me to step out of my car and it was about thirty seconds later that I was handcuffed. He said after I asked how fast I was going (he didnt clock me or anything) about 65!! Uh.. I'm not crying poor pitiful me but I'm 32, married, and have a clean driving record. Well, I was lumped in with the midnight teenage racing crew and Plano was aiming to clean that scene up...
I was told I'd be spending the entire night in jail for "street racing" and would have to see a judge between 7:00 and 9:30 AM the next day.. Uh, not me officer I have a meeting at 7:30. I was thrown in with all the other thugs and laid on a nasty cold floor till nearly 2AM strip searched and the whole nine my friends - my wife had to get a special bail bond issued by the Collin County Sherrif's office and hire an attorney. Long story short, I was bailed for $650 and spent another $150 to get my new ride out of the pound. A week later I had to go to the county jail and get booked there as well. I was shoulder to shoulder with gun carrying drug dealers. Another four hour ordeal - this time I was literally let out with people who had been serving time!
All in all I think I can get off faily easily adn I kind of think i will make a funny story but the cold hard truth is that the (roughly) $1,300-$1,500 this may cost me could have been spent in better ways..
I just thought I would share that with you guys...

I don't race that much at all. If the opportunity comes along once in a while, I'll do it as long as there is no traffic. This sounds like you are the exact same as me. I'm 25, married, and I think I'm pretty responsible.
I agree that you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm sure you can get off of this with a good lawyer. It will cost you a little bit though.

Ouch! Costly and painful experience! Sorry to hear that, Jailhouse. Appropriate name, btw.
Yep, racing and speeding has their consequences. Sucks that you only had your car for a week and went through all that. But lesson learned, right? Btw, the price you paid for an '01 is excellent, given it has low to average mileage.
Enjoy your ride!

Yes, you guys are correct, and yes I learned a lesson, but does anyone agree that I should have been arrested?? Again, I admit being in the wrong here but I felt that what I went through as a result was excessive.

It may seem like overkill but people DIE every day as a result of someone making a stupid decision like you did. Personally I don't care if you want to kill yourself but when you put others at risk it's a problem. I'm not going to get on a soapbox here because we created this forum to avoid that but since you're asking I don't think it was excessive that you were arrested.
I totally don't think you should have been arrested. I truely think it was overkill. The cop should have used better judgement by looking at your age. Not saying that if you are older you should get off for commiting crimes. But come on, how often do you think married 32 year old men street race? I'm sure they don't make an every day, every weekend, or even every month habit of it. Unlike 16 to 21 year old kids.
The cop was wrong to arrest you. But that's what lawyers are for.
