Don't get me wrong, the car is one beautiful piece of machinery and is by no means slow I just thought that it would pack more punch when I first heard of it and saw it, out the door the car is still 6 figures. Wouldn't you think it should at least be close to E46 M3 numbers?

uhhh, not really.

they're 2 different cars...........

besides, you can't always judge performance based on cost.

if so, for a $30K car, the s2000 should be about as fast as other $30K cars - which we know is not the case

I totally agree, but i'm not saying it should be compared to the M I just thought the numbers would be closer to it, but as stated before thats what the AMG is for.

The SL500 is the most beautiful new Merc' out there. By the way, the comparison w/ the SL500 and the E46 M3 is wrong. I've raced both coupe and 'vert E46s and they can beat me (not by much, they only creep foward ever so slowly). Lastly, about the AMG SL55, this car will absolutely demolish everything.

the person in the sl couldnt have been pushing the limit, i know beacuse i own a 2003 sl500 with amg package(18" 5 spoke amg wheels and body accents) and my wife has the s2000....i mean dont get me wrong, the s2000 can "keep up" but there is no kill involved if u r running the sl to max....just my completely unbiased 0.02...both cars are nice.

and just to appease s2000 owners, on an given nice day on a road filled with twisties I would rather be in an s2000.....
