hey guys, i was driving my 1999 m coupe on the 101 tonight (i also have 2002 330ci 5sp and evo 8 with 250miles on it) and some dude with a SRT4 was tailgating me so i decided to play with him a little so i gun my car at 80mph an amazingly the dodge was rite behind me allthe time! but i stop at about 100.is the SRT4 really that fast..?any comments thanks

 

Hmmmm, I have a WRX and from a stop I could not pull on an M coupe up through like 80-90. Of course he was not pulling away from me either, we were even. Also I have not driven the Srt-4 in order to compare it to my WRX so I do not know what the thing can do and what the boost curve is like. Since it is 2WD it MIGHT be able to keep up, but more likely he had a mod or two. I am absolutely guessing here cuz I have not driven the SRT-4 so nobody jump on me here.

anyways, i was on I75 a few months ago and a black SRT-4 pulled up next to me and started revving...i had my girl in the car and refuse to race with her, but she insisted, so i threw it into 2nd and we raced from about 60-110 and I pulled about 4-5 cars on him...i wasn't impressed.

I ran one at the track that had upped his boost to 21psi (i think...i know it was upped though) and had Co2 injected into the intercooler, and he ran a 14.0 @ 104 and I ran a 13.6 @ 109

Is the '99 the S52- or S54-engined model? Either way, I think the SRT-4 would put up a very good fight from 80-100mph.

 

i used to have a celica gts about 3yrs ago when i join the s2ki.com..anyway the m coupe i have is the S54 engine but i wish i have the 2001 model with the new engine hehe..

From a roll the SRT is almost as fast as an EVO. They trap around 100 mph as does the EVO. They're definately no joke from a roll.

 

He was lying to you. Stock they run 14 flat-if the driver sucks mid 14's. I saw a chick w/ $1500 in mods run a 12.9. That's no joke. Not too many cars are that good. Problem w/ the SRT-4 is the transmission and brake system. They both shit out early. I drove one, TONS! of power, feels like a Neon. I murder them now w/ my 100 octane program but before they would eat me alive. Bottom line that person was lying to you, he had to have been stock or the shittiest driver in the world. I don't even think that turbo can handle 21 lbs of boost, but I could be wrong.
