Default Pulled an E46 M3.....from a dig!

Yup.

Im coming back from a friends place, and Im waiting for the light to turn green. RIght as it turns green, a Black Hartop M3 pulls up along side and scoots off. At 2k rpms in first, Im about as fast as a three legged turtle.

But its all good. We catch the next light. He's halfway into the middle of the intersection waiting for the light to change. I bring the revs up to 2500, a good 5000 short of where they need to be. (Daily driver, you see).

Into first, and he jumps a quick carlength on me.......not so fast, sucka! Vtec comes, and I stop the pull, second gear, and I pull almost even with him. Third, and Im slowly pulling away...........and I shut down, point made.

He didnt stop, but Im sure he was curious as to how that happened.

Oz 2; Black M3 Hardtops 0

(I beat one before going from a high roll).

Are you talking about the previous version M3 because the way you drive he would have raped you. If you start from 2500 rpm no way you beat a M3 coupe. VTEC only does so much, and the M3 has it's own version of that. Sorry just don't see unless this guy was playing with you. You better drop the hammer (high rpm launch) if the M3 really wants to race to have any chance against them.

Are you talking about one of the 333 horse M3s?

Maybe you missed Pakisho's sig. Yeah, he's got boost by way of a S/C. I believe that he could have pulled like he did, I've seen his car at the track and it runs strong. Anyway, nice kill Next time your up in Sac, let me know.

Blake: Thanks for clearing the confusion.

Yes, 333hp M3. Thats usually what E46 indicates. E36 is the older model, which Ive gone neck and neck with before the boost. (But thats a whole different can of worms).

Hey Rev-Hi. Next time Im heading up to Sac i will let you know.

Actually, I hadnt posted about my track experience. It was a pretty average performance. My best pass was a 14.5at 103mph. Yes, I know a stock s2k will beat me. I ran a stock s2k that day when it was really hot out and he went 15.2 @ 94ish, I went 14.9@102. So there is clearly a whole lot more power to play with. (He went 14.6 later in the evening, with a small burnout and a high rpm launch. I was just rolling up to the lights and taking off).

I launched at the track like I do on the street.........almost at idle. My 14.5 came from launching at 2500rpms. Bog bog bog till the 60ft (which is right around where the boost comes on), and then the car screams off. I trapped 102 against a z06 that went 13.6@106 on street tires, so I considered it a pretty fair performance. Im not inclined to chase a 13 second slip with a 7500rpm clutch dump.

But heat is not a blower cars friend at all. That much I learned. Even with 100octane in the tank (courtesy of Ben Treynor, who by the way, is a hell of a nice guy), the car felt sluggish in 100 degree weather, and livened up considerably as the evening progressed and temps dropped.

nice kill!

yeah BMW's version of VTEC is called VANOS. I believe all I6 (or larger) BMWs got it since '93. I believe the e46 M3 has a double VANOS system, which makes it pull extremely hard in the higher RPMs.
