This all happened to "A guy I know" (read: see in mirrors) that I will refer to as John to protect the innocent.

John's original intentions were to use the ford to sweep out the cops, so John was just egging him on to go faster than John. Then John caught up to him behind an 18 wheeler. They both passed and just kept it floored! John was short shifting at 8k to keep about 10 carlengths back until 6th gear at about 130 John started gaining on him. At 147 John got so close John started to pick up turbulence from his draft so John had to shut down, but man what a rush!! John had never been so close (2-3 carlengths) to another car going so fast.

John stopped to say hi to him, he was on his way to vegas.

John had John's top down, so even w/ the aerodynamic inefficiencies John was pulling on him. If John redline shifted John could easily have passed him sooner, but John was just having fun trying to push him

For 3/4's of the way through the story I was reading "John" as "Josh". thinking, what a coincidence that Josh knows someone else with a penchant for speed and the same name!

for those that know CA, it was on a stretch of 46. Also there was no oncoming traffic, or "John" would be too scared of crosswinds/hitting oncoming traffic. "John" is crazy but not too stupid

0-150 any year of the DOHC Cobra (96+) is quicker than the s2000.

Of course if you draft a quicker car you tend to go faster than you normally would.

Sure you were... once upon a time I owned a 98 Cobra convertible -- I have no problems admitting it was faster than my S2000. So what? There are many cars faster than the s2000, I guess I don't understand the need by some people to make believe that their car is the fastest thing around.

Here are some published numbers -- you can argue that they are with different drivers and different conditions -- but a 4-5 second difference is well ... an eternity.

98 Mustang Cobra
0-30 2.1
0-40 3.0
0-50 4.3
0-60 5.5
0-70 7
0-80 9.2
0-90 11.2
0-100 13.5
0-110 16.9
0-120 20.8

S2000
0-30 3.2
0-40 4.2
0-50 5.7
0-60 7.1
0-70 9.1
0-80 11.1
0-90 13.5
0-100 16.6
0-110 19.7
0-120 25.1
