Raced an LS1 trans am from a stoplight today!
I was pulling out of good old burger king today and saw a guy in a black trans am go by. He kinda stared my car down as he went by, then revved up his american muscle as he passed.
I pulled out shortly after, and was able to catch up to him eventually. I was behind him and he turned right onto a road that went 2 lanes to 1. I just stayed behind him as it goes to 1 lane right away, and not enough time for anything. He sped up and I stuck right behind him.
The first 2 lights stayed green, but the 3rd light was the charm. I got into the lane next to him and just waited. I was unsure of what to launch at as I have not had much practice, so I decided 4000rpm would be a good try.
He started revving his trans am, so I revved to 4 grand and waited. Wait, wait, green! Light turned and I nailed the launch. 1st gear was gone in a second. (damn these gears chew through the rpms quick) From the launch and 1st gear we were a bit even, but I pulled on him slightly. (i dont think he got as good a launch as me) 2nd gear I actually pulled about another 2 feet on him. 3rd gear and he pulled about a foot on me, ever so slowly. I decided to shut down as I was not willing to go any faster on this particular road.
He never even looked over, just turned off right away and left.
The race was fairly even, and certainly not a kill. He was pulling very slightly when I shut down at the end of 3rd gear.

Nice run.
A LS1 is going to pull hard from third gear on.
A friends 99 with < 300 bucks in mods only slowly falls behind my 911 turbo from third gear roll-ons -- and ran a 12.9 at 112 coasting through the lights because the crap clutch dropped to the floor and he never got it into third.
This was the same night I could not break 12.5 because we had a 20MPH headwind and a cold cold track. They are beasts.
If anyone should care to, I can arrange a run in St Louis with this camaro and put to rest these LS1s are not that fast threads that will certainly follow.

Keep in mind I can put a good 5-6 cars on a stock S2k from a 10mph roll to 90.
A stock S2k SHOULD get walked hard every which way by an LS1. I still don't think my gears, intake, exhaust are enough to run what an LS1 can, but it's close enough that driver can make the difference.

seeings how your car is made to take advantage of your power band with your gearing, i wouldnt be too surpised by the outcome if he was stock. If you would have stayed in it.....the LS1 would have started to pull ALOT harder. Very nice though
i agree with the rest of you. i raced a bolt on LT1 trans am on the highway (60-125) and he was INCHING away, my front bumper at his back bumper by 125. then i raced an SLP bolt on LS1 camaro same powerband (60-125). lets just say that they definately did something right in the change from the LT1 to the LS1. he started pulling immediately and by 125 there were 3 cars btw us, and he was still pulling. gotta
those LS1s.

Nice run Wisc.
And then youve got the tards out in vegas that are beating vipers in Miatas.
I mean, I know anything can happen on the street, but at some point you have to start wondering whose been huffing the paint can.

1st gear alone gets me about 2 cars from about a 10mph roll.
2nd gets me about another 2. beyond that it can vary. maybe only 5 cars by 90, not 6.
but yeah the gears make a HUGE difference. I expect I can get some low 13's at the track. I ran high 13's stock. My WORST time ever was a 14.3 and that was with a missed shift. last time I ran at the track I was getting 14 flat @ 102 on 2.24 60' times. (i normally am in the 2.1 area) I don't think I'd have any problem putting at LEAST 4-5 cars on a stock S2k from a stop.
