Default Ran across E46 M3

Well, the cruising spot had a lot of people, but everyone seemed to always be on the other side of the street. I was getting kinda tired after being up there an hour and a half and decided it was time to head home. Then I see it. It was a beautiful Black M3 with a nice size spoiler on the back and aftermarket rims...No, not ricey. I had seen this guy up there before and actually saw him taking out a couple of ricers so I knew he would be game to play. It was a couple of 30's Asian guys in there which made it better because that meant they just weren't driving in daddy's car. It was his, so I'm sure he knew how to handle it. Well, finally after driving a couple miles in traffic we hit a light. I stay about a half a car behind just so I can look at it. It is a very nice piece of European muscle. Beautifully designed and I believe worth every penny.

Well, I am anticipating the left turn arrow to go yellow. Our light finally goes green and just as we start to take off, some idiot in an 84 cutlass decides to run his left turn light in front of us. When he see us gun it, the cutlass freezes in the middle of the intersection!!!! So as I have to come to a coplete stop and wait for this jerk off to pull off, the M3 is able to go around it and take off. I caught him up the street and decided to settle to race from a roll. I get next to him in 3rd gear. I let him jump and I gun it. I start pulling and pulling hard, I shift into 4th and a couple seconds after that he is in my rear view mirror. I know I took him by surprise because I am sure he is used to beating the "LT1" F-bodies Oh well, how fun is life without surprises? I slowed down and he zoomed passed. I hit my flashers to signal good race....I hope he didn't think I was pulling a ricer move and flashing because I won.....oh well. He didn't even look my way when he zoomed past anyway. I hit the freeway and felt that the night was worth going out

Thanx, but they are pretty quick from the factory. 13.2 @105 is not bad. I wonder if there are a lot of mods for them.

Not fast . Like Marv said, they are pretty damn quick out the box. Blow the doors off any stock S2K thats for sure. I think a supercharger is available for the car.

Blow the door off a stock S2000 yes. A moded one no. I hear twin turbos are being made for the new m3.

Uh, there have been a couple of engine problems but as for them "blowing left and right".... that is a load of crap. I have a silver '01 with 11,400 miles and no real problems. Three of the blown engines have been to driver error. If you try to downshift from 5-4 and hit 2nd instead, the ECU rev limiter will not catch in time for you to send your S54 engine north of 11,000 rpm and blow.

Point #2. Currently, there are NO TURBO MODS AVAILABLE FOR ANY NEW E46 M3. I cruise all of the boards and have been actively searching for mods but I haven't heard of 1 single mfg who is working on a turbo mod. I would love for someone to start to look at a turbo mod but none of the major mfg's have come to the table.

Point #3. There are a few companies that are going to follow Dinan's S/C system. Because the engine (S54 is the engine model designation for the current M3/roadster) has such a high compression ratio 11.5:1, they can't run much boost without reducing the compression first. So, they can only run with relatively low boost pressure but the results of 6 psi is a very very sweet 465 crank hp. The kit from Dinan DOES NOT VOID THE MFG. WTTY so, I can tell you there will be many buyers. I am on the list as #1 at Classic BMW in Dallas.

Uh, no rev limiter will help you in that case. The momentum of the engine turning and the speed of the car will cause the engine to over-rev.
