RANT: RX7 Club doubts the S2000
I'm surprised how so many RX7 drivers feel that S2Ks can't hit 13s. I read on this board alot and am surprised at how many are in the 13s. I've driven an S2K before and know it would give a stock RX7 a close run. The RX7 is easier to launch. From a roll I'd give the nod to the RX7 7 out of 10 times. RX7s are getting old - my car will be 10 years old this fall (build date). Within a year or 2 I'll sell my RX7 for a S2K - it has the most comparable performance to my car (stock) than any other car I've driven. I think most of the RX7 owners on the forum are already in the low-mid 12s with bolt-ons and run circles around even modded S2Ks at will and they have an ego problem. If both cars are stock it will be very close - could go either way. Start modding the cars and it gets ugly for the stook.
kwikrx7, why don't you post a 13.xx timeslip there (or at least link to it). Here's Sev's timeslip of 13.85 @100mph (stock S2000)http://pages.infinit.net/sev/13.855RunOn22Oct2000.jpg
Power is nothing without control.....I have seen more wrecked
rex's than i can count. Insurance is out of control for them because so many have been destroyed. Great car .....but had problems. The economy sydrome did not kill the rex like it did the 300zx and supra........The car is fricken dangerous. To much power at certin points. Don't get me wrong cool looking and fast but on the twistys i'll take the s2000 and my life than a few cheap thrills and death.

As long as both cars have the same rubber on them they will handle very similar. I think the RX7 has posted better skidpad numbers (between .97 and .99 depending on model touring, base or R1) but I'm sure the S2K would be very close. They are very comparable in all departments - handling and acceleration - it would just come down to the driver. Like I said earlier I don't think any other car has come as close in performance to the RX7 as the S2k as far as numbers. Both are high 13 sec 1/4 milers, 0-60 in low 5s, trap at 100 mph - the RX7 edges the S2K out in some other categories such as braking and top speed but who cares. Unless the RX7 has mods, the 2 cars will run pretty close.
