Default RX-8 vs. MY04

I'm headin' home after gettin' some food and I'm stuck at a light waiting to get on the main strip, when a blue RX-8 goes by. I think to myself I haven't had any races yet this year, so what the hell.

Finally I get a green light and I catch up to him to see if he wants to run. We run into some traffic, but he quickly starts makin' his way through traffic, and I'm right on his tail. As soon as we get clear of traffic he nails it, unfortunately I'm stuck between 2 and 3 so I go to 3 and i'm slightly out of Vtec, and he gets a slight jump. By the top of 3rd, however, I started reeling him back in - shift to 4th - I switch lanes (being cautious to use the correct signal) and walk by - shift to 5th -and continue to pull ahead. at 115 I shut down as it started to get a little windy with the top down.

I let him go by (not a ricer fly by) and I follow him for a bit to see if he'll go again. We're cruising at this point at about 72 in 6th when I hear him downshift and go, so I t hrew it to 4th (again stuck slightly out of Vtec) and he gets a slight jump and we're even for a sec, then I start reeling/passing him again just as before, again shutting down at around 115.

We slow down then and I ask if he's modded and he said just intake and exhaust. I was kinda surprised because I thought it would've been a little closer with those mods, but I don't know much about them when it comes to mods, it was a cool run nonetheless.

sorry for the long write-up.
-Josh

^ They arent...he stated he was "slightly out of vtec" which would justify the initial Rx8 jump which was quickly regained

Good runs

Even with intake and exhaust the two aren't close. But good kill anyhow.

Josh, no offense, but you should have been in 3rd when you were in 4th and 2nd when you were in 3rd the first time. You need to use the cars power and downshift all the way.

the car hits the limiter at 58 in 2nd which is the speed I was going, and the car also hits the limiter I think at like 74 or 75 in 3rd, so I didn't see the point in downshifting to those gears (remember I have an '04 so the gears are shorter)...no offense taken

Oh, right. Then why are you out of VTEC???? If limiter in 3rd is at 74, then 72 should be well into VTEC in 4th

yeah, the RX8 is a disapointment for the rotary series. Hopefully with the re-design of the Rx7 it will be much better.

The RX8 is said to be in the 160hp range.

I got my ass smoked by my friend's RX7, a 94 R1.

It was JUST out of Vtec. I think it was around 5500rpm maybe, and Vtec doesn't kick in until about 5800-6200...It only took a second before Vtec was in full engagement and I started running away.
