how can u tell if the differential fails or gets messed up from a bad launch? What are the symptoms?

Yes, because a high 13-second car losing to a low 14-second car is just unforgiveable.

If you mess up your geared LSD you should hear and maybe feel all sorts of grinding when turning sharply (parking lot speeds) in one or both directions.

can diffs. last the lifespan of the car if u drive it right? Or do all diffs. eventually go out in time?

If you don't drag race I don't see why a Torsen-style (geared) LSD won't last as long as other driveline components. I expect more wear-and-tear in clutch pack-style LSD's, as on the C5 vette but I rarely hear of anyone doing LSD clutch replacements even among the casual drag racers.

We've got a whole board of S2000 drivers here, how many replaced their LSD? My S2000 had problems with 2nd gear synchros, like clockwork, every 8K miles.

eh, I have 02 gti with ecu,intake,dp,mbc,tip and 03 s2k with aem cai,apexi-gt
gti pulls on s2k even if s2k starts in vtec range rolling,. hell it even pulls on stock evos
ur race seems about right

Then your not driving the S2000 right...

And slightly modded (even stock in some/most cases) s2000 pull on stock evo's...from a roll none the less

what u mean by driving s2k right?
shifting fast at right time without loosing power band? if that's what u meant, i am sure i can shift pretty well iam not putting down s2k and iam not a noob driver, i am just asnwering the poster's question with my experience,. my vw pulls on stock evos, s2ks,350zs because i have some stuff, which does not mean i suck at driving,.

With his mods this should be pretty much a drivers race but watch out for the guys running Big Turbos on there 1.8's they'll eat you alive!? Nice run!

Ehh, I just don't find them being that fast with stock turbo's....I use to ride with a few of my buddies and there VW crew..(maybe 7 or 8 gti's, and jetta's, GLI's...My friend had an 02' 1.8T, with a bunch of bolt-ons, almost all of them actually..a Dyno queen...He put down like 275 FWHP with like 330+ something lbs-ft of torque in a little golf (the torque might have even been more) anyways he talked all this and that about how he wanted to race me. So one night I agreed to ride out with him and his VW crew....we line up in 2nd gear at like 45-50 mph, and he slow's down....I was like wtf, (thinking) "speed up"...He refused to speed up saying his car was at too high of an RPM! I wasen't about to fall out of VTEC to start a race so I was tring to get him to speed up...He wouldn't no matter what...So I finally gave in and slowed to like 35 in 2nd gear in an AP1 none the less!! Clear disadvantage for me...3 honks and were off.......WE WERE DEAD EVEN BEFORE MY VTEC EVEN TURNED ON!! Soon as it did I immedetly start pulling...5-6-7 car's by mid 4th! So now I was like "lets do one from my prime spot and see the results" of course he refused..275whp!! .So now the rest of his VW buddies wanted to run...and let's just say by the end of the night they wished they didn't...except the only VW that night riding with an upgraded turbo, a GLI... he pulled a good 8-10 car's on me! His car was nice and clean!


A few week's later my buddy with the 1.8T golf added a 75 wet shot!!
He then got his revenge on my almost STOCK S2000! Way to go VW!
