It was another gorgeous day in west LA so i decided to meet up a friend in Van Nuys, porn capital of the world, for lunch. On the way back, there's this 2 mile stretch full of uphill S curves that's usually very empty with a few slow movers . Today, at the red light at the bottom of the hill (about 20 degree steep, 35 limit, 0 passenger in both, sepulveda blvd), i found myself next to the new 330 coupe. The next 60 sec. was something that you only do once a month in this kind of car. Light turned green, both car slammed it... stook ahead by 1 cars and, on 4th at 6500rpm and 85mph, extended lead to 3 cars... But in the next few secs i'm not sure if i didn't drive right, the bimmer cheated, or got more power... on the 3rd or 4th of 5 S curves, he passed me by 1 1/2 cars by crossing the double yellow on the FAR left of a 4 lane road with his tires squealing for the rest of this Van Nuys autocross (i was on far right). My stook's 18" only chirped when i made my cut and I stayed on my side of the road all the way, and, within 8-10 secs, I passed him again in a straightaway tunnel. The bimmer seems quicker than my old 328 4d, but i think the reason why he briefly passed me was because i stayed on 4th at around 6000-7000rpm a little too long.

That was the only pass he made. He was a good driver but you can hear his tires squeak the entire way ! I thought the bimmer would have more straight away power and less handling.

Kick his ass. I notice a lot of the new Bimmers don't step up cuz they know I'll kick their ass. Minus the new M3, M5, etc. but haven't encountered them yet.

Well, if he's using up the whole road and you're staying in your lane, he's going to have higher cornering speeds. Sounds like a case of him pushing harder than you. Don't sweat it.

I'm agreeing with *ultimate* on this. He's definitely trying hard to prove a point. *Screeching tires* that car gotta be at its limit. I hope that he doesn't post it on a beemer forum, saying that he smoked a s2000 today.

I definitely could have pushed harder... even though the S2K can handle +8,500 rpm, it still doesn't feel normal to do it daily...yet. He was either very ballsy or just lost control... never heard that much street rubber ever.

If you wanna run an M5 go ahead and get ready to be smoked. Those are serious fast, and can beat C5s. I dunno if you have a chance stock v stock. With some mods it would get interesting.

I know the M5 is faster by specs I've researched in the past and have no doubt I'd be beat. I just thought it might be fun to play with one of my office buds. Especially since it seems many want to see how badly we win or loose.
