Default S vs. M roadster

I saw a M roadster on the road yesterday. We didnt race, but I was just wondering if anyone has raced one. I've heard that for the money they arent worth it--I've read the performance is disappointing. Any comments?

Depends on which M roadster u race. Old one with 240hp, you should have close to each other. New one with 310+hp then just count how many car of length from its ass.

From what I have read on the Bimmer boards and even here, the S2K and the S52 engined (240HP) ///M Roadsters (98-00) are close in performance (straight-line acceleration) with an edge going to the M.

The 2001 and 2002 model M's have 315 HP and therefore a decided edge in a Street Encounter.

Armed with my '01 ///M Roadster, I have proven that last point on 3 different occasions when mixing it up with S2K's on a street.

The good news is that there were only about 1800 '01 & '02 M's built, so your chances of seeing one are relatively rare.

In addition, I have heard that the M's are competitive with you guys in the twisties / autocross, but have no first hand knowledge of that.

(Disclaimer: As I have posted before, I enjoy all Roadster types and even though my M is faster than your S2K (assuming stock for both), in no way do I think the BMW is better than the Honda. While the M was a better car for me, it obviously was not for you and you'll get no desparaging remarks from me about your decision.)

Peace

I used to own the s52 M-Roadster (240hp). They're definitely easier to launch/race cuz of all that extra torque. My guess is that you'd have to drive your s2k pretty well to be even (or even beat) an M-Roadster.

Regarding handling, the s2k wins hands down. The M-Roadster did not handle well at all IMO. It's stock suspension is just crap, and even after I swapped it out for bilstein/hr suspension it was just moderately good, not great like our car's handling.

Interesting...... I've been keeping an eye out for a post of these cars for a while now. My friend got a '99 M Coupe a couple months ago, and I just got my S about 3 weeks ago.... I've been itching to go out driving with him, haven't been able to yet though. From the sound of it, they'll be fairly close in performance, but before when I had to guess, I was thinking that the M would have the edge, with a lot broader torque range and amount, as well as a fixed top... I know the Honda's great in the curves for a convertible, but I just figured BMW... small, light.... can't be bad at all. Now I'm pretty excited, I'm curious to see how we both do in a good set of twisties...!!

drag race, the S52 M's should be faster unless you get a perfect launch in your S, then it's a driver's race....MY01 M's should pick on C5's

I have an 03 S2k and my father has an 02 ///M Roadster with the 315HP engine....I have driven both and agree the S2k has better handling, but doesn't compare on straightline acceleration. We have played around and done spirited driving on the backroads....on the straights he pulls pretty good and there is nothing I can do. In the corners he has a hard time keeping up with me. I love both cars for different reasons, but the ///M scares me when taken to the limit......it just doesn't feel predictable and the doors are so low around your shoulders that you feel really exposed.
