s2000 vs. bird
Yesterday i had to do alot of running around. I just had 50 places i had to go. So i was on a local highway doing 70 mph. All of a sudden i see just a dot coming towards my car ridiculously fast and its pretty big. A fraction of a second after i first see the dot. Splat. A bird flew head first into my windshield. The bird died on impact as it nearly exploded. But somehow my windshield is ok. Kinda scary.
Umm. Coincidentally, I hit a bird while driving a few days ago. It was actually a rather large bird, about the size of an eagle, that was trying to fly "across" the freeway (I-5 near Seattle). It was coming from my left and seemed to struggle, flying rather slowly and low, about 3 or 4 feet from the ground; I think its wings must have been injured.
I saw it and got surprised, and I immediately hit the brake to avoid hitting the bird with my windshield. I had about 1.5 seconds to react. I avoided it, but the truck on my right didn't. The bird flew "into" the truck, and bounced back onto my convertible top, and bounced again onto the ground.
I then checked my rear view mirror, I think the car behind me ran over it. Yikes. It was cruel.

I had the exact same experience in my truck about 2 years ago. About the same speed/angle of attack - after the initial impact he disappeared. I looked in the rear view mirror expecting to see a carcass flopping around in my wake. Didn't see squat and after about 15 seconds or so I started doubting what had just happened. After checking the rear view mirror for the third time he suddenly came into view - crashing straight down onto the road in a heap. I must have knocked him a hundred yards straight up! His beak left a permanent mark in the glass that I could never get out.
