S2000 vs. Camaro SS
One of my friends just got a used Camaro SS, so of course he wanted to see how it would run against the S2K. We line up, and he takes off. That thing launches like a dream. He pulls ahead and gets a good distance on me. I am not starting well that night for some reason. A couple more runs, he is consistently beating me off the line. I can usually catch up to him later on. I drove his car... it's soooo different from the S2K's. The throws seam so long, and the suspension feels kind of pillowy. But it is still a FAST car. I guess it's time for that supercharger..
Its called twice the torque and 80 more broad band hp. I know that some of the mags have it as a close race...but the real world tells the truth. But its still a chevy...Id take the S2000 anyday.
I have a question. How and the heck were you catching him later on?? Did he slow down? No offense, but an S2000 is going to get rocked by an SS, LT1 or LS1. If you don't stay with him at the line, I have a hard time believing you are going to catch him later down the road.
What year is the SS?

I know how fast the S is. I don't question that it happened, I just don't know how it happened.
For some reference, my roommate has a worked 97 LT1. Last Friday we went from about 60-85, we were even at the start, and he pulled on me like I wasn't moving. It might have been a little closer but I wasn't in it right away since I wasn't sure if we were going to go.
I went into 3rd, we both hit it, we stayed even for about a second and a half, and then he quickly walked away. Now he has more hp then a stock LS1, but I can't imagine being 4 lengths behind at 60 and wind up catching and passing a stock LS1 by 120 (and by 1.5 cars) with the LS1 going balls out.

Oh, my bad, sorry about that. Ok, I can accept that. I just let my mind get ahead of myself. I know we are talking stock Z28s but the LS1 is a different monster compared to the LT1.
Now that I think about it, his LT1 is quite a bit faster (or it should be) then a stock LS1. Ah, who knows, his car is too much for my S2000, I do know this for sure.

OK, I really need to race an s2000 because if you're pulling an LS1 after the line, something's wrong. Nothing bad about the S, but I wouldn't expect a stock S2000 to hang with me too long.
A Z28 or SS (doesn't really make much of a difference) dyno about the same as a Corvette. I hope you understand that Corvettes and Camaro's with equal drivers are pretty close (drag racing). The corvette will win, but if drivers aren't equal, it's anybody's race.
I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I too am trying to figure out how you pulled an LS1 after the launch...maybe the guy couldn't shift?
