Default S2000 VS MazdaSpeed 3

So i was going to the university at night. I was in the right lane, i notice from behind theres a MazdaSpeed 3 behind me or rather hear it. So at the next light we line up, no launches for either of us. Started on a roll about 30km/h. He honks first, so i continue 2 more and on his 3rd honk we ran. I was sitting at ~4700rpms. By middle of 4th, i had 3 car lengths on him, on an uphill too!.

Mods he had, some aftermarket wheels couldn't see what they were. Exhaust for sure.

I've had mixed results with my MS3 runs but more then not I have ended up on top (I have had a number of them now). I tend to pull on them if we launch but a roll is much tuffer as they have good low end power and spool real quick*. From 0-100MPH it should be pretty equal. From a roll, if he is spooled up (it doesn't take much) and goes WOT before you he should pull a bit before you stop him from pulling. You'll be lucky to real him back in by 100MPH if he gets more then a 1 sec jump on you though. I'm wondering if he maybe he went WOT a sec after you or went WOT from 2nd gear because having 3 cars on a MS3 by the top of 4th gear seems like a bit much. Either way you won! Good work on not letting an MS3 outdo an S2k.

Most MS3 owners think that they are the fastest things around. Probably because they feel fast*. My guess is that he underestimated you. He probably thought he could run with you without downshifting because of his tq. advantage. Sounds like he was wrong. People always discount posts here because they refuse to accept that a slightly faster car can be beaten by a slower one. They fail to realize that the slightest driver error can nigate a performance advantage.

*I test drove an MS3 about 8 months ago and it does feel faster then the S2k but I think that is because the quick turbo spool and higher tq. in the lower end. Feeling faster doesn't mean it is faster though.

Wheels could be slowing him down if they're bigger than stock.

I recently had a run-in with a MS3. It not only had aftermarket wheels but he was running a RWD type setup with a significantly wider rear, deeper offset ... you get the picture.

I really meant to ask him wtf was up with the wheels and why you would want to induce MORE understeer in a torquey FWD car, but dude was all business, no time to talk.

i have worked and been worked by a number of ms3's, i never get the chance to ask if they are stock or not. simple bolt ons are huge gains on those things, not including a reflash. it spools so quick with so much bottom end and not much top end i can see why they would not bother with downshifting, good for me so i can get the jump!
