Again as most of you know I only try to type about races that make me say "wow that was pretty fun".
Well this was such a race.

I am traveling on I-95 South through Maryland. Wait before I go on let me set up the scene. It had been raining but now was partly sunny out. I had pulled on the shoulder of the highway to drop the top. (Mental note: Oh how I love convertibles.) I am playing some Anita Baker - Funny Valentine -- A very nice cruising song when your with the one you love. Anyway, I merge back onto the highway and see a red Supra past. I saw the exhaust which looked stock as it passed me. So I figured even if it was a turbo I would not get beat too bad b/c it was looked stock. I pull up behind it and look for the words turbo..but I do not see them. So I figure either it was a N/A or a guy with some serious power that wanted a sleeper. I was thinking positive..so I thought it was a N/A. I change lanes and pass him on the left. I passed him very slowly. I did not look over as I was trying to be
I was going about 70 or 80. When my rear wheel got to his hood he began to speed up. He must have downshifted as I heard his engine increase in revs. But I did not hear any turbos I wait until we are side by side. I look over and smile. He smiles and points forward. At this moment I am very excited. I turn up AB (thats Anita Baker for the slow people) and let it roll. He gets the jump on me as I wasn't sure when to begin. In other words, we did not count to three or horn beep it was just GO! So he gets the jump on me but that jump was almost instantaneous as the Vtec kicked. He maybe had me by a wheel but as the electric tach went closer to 9K (I love the sound of that engine) he began to fade ..fade ..fade.. I took it up to 135 or at least that is what the speedometer read. I slowed down so he could catch up (which seemed to take forever). Once we were side by side again he points again.. hey if he wants to see my rear again that is fine by me. This time we slow down to about 45 or 50. We take off again..but this time I am ready..man it was UGLY. I had him by at least 6 to 7 car lengths by 130. I slowed down b/c I had to take the next exit. He came up beside me and waved I gave him a thumbs up and exited.

Nice kill! Sounds like he was N/A, huh?

Supras around here are as rare as S2000's, maybe even rarer. Too bad, I thought about getting one but A) Not easy to find any turbos that are stock/well cared for and B) I don't like the way they look.

Yeah, Supra's aren't the prettiest cars in the world...but boy, are they mod friendly. I check on eBay weekly to see who's selling their Supra. There's one right now with 49 miles or something on it. It's a 93 TT! Asking price (bid start), $59,000!!! I'd love to have a mint condition Supra, but I couldn't justify paying $60K for one. However, I am in the market for a 98' TT Supra in about 2 to 3 years. Hopefully I can find one in good condition with low miles by then. After riding in my friend's 800HP+ Supra, I'm willing to give away my first born to obtain this car. Same Supra that laid a smackdown to the guy who owns a TT Calloway<sp?> Vette on the highway about two years ago. Yeah, I know it requires crazy amount of cash to work the car up to 600HP+ levels...but any car in the same catergory requires just about that much. Anyhow, I think the Supra My R2 raced was either NA or a TT driven by an inexperienced driver.

Oh, btw...at 800HP, it's a good idea to upgrade the stock braking system. Friend learned the hard way.

Yeah guys, I think it was a N/A supra tpp. A TT Supra would have handed me my rear. I like Supras too. Back in 1994 when I was about to buy a car I was torn between the RX-7 and the Supra. I choose the RX-7 b/c of looks, unique engine and VERY fun to drive. And hey let's face its a real sports car has ONLY two seats But seriously, I am happy I purchased the RX-7. I do wish I had enough money to buy both at the time but hey Trump is not my last name. SUpras are great cars, great comfort, great speed, great mods potential...they are super cars in general. But then so are all the sporty and sport cars that came out of Japan in the 90s.

Nice run

With Supra TTs, can you tell their turbo because of bigger brakes, and the calipers say "supra" on them.

Also, the mufflers HUGE.

Dead giveaway are the wheels. 17in for TT's vs. 16's for NA.

I thought a N/A Supra and a stock S2000 would be pretty much side by side racing. And pretty much any TT or modded one, would have it's way with us... Am I wrong?
