S2k top up vs S2k top down
Whats up guys, a few of us Dallas guys drove down to Houston for a meet this past weekend. Having fun on the way there of course, me and a my buddy made a quick run. We basically have the same setups:
Mine: 2000, Aem v2, Berk 63mm tp, Invidia ti-dual, top up, a/c full blast, female passenger, lol, 18" wheels
His: 2000, CAi, header, Invidia 70 tp, Invidia ti-dual, top down, no a/c on, no passenger, has amp and sub, 17" wheels
Well, here's how it went down...
We both slowed down to around 60-70mph 3rd gear, floored it, i begin to pull away by about a half length, redline, shift into 4th gear, floored it, continued to pull and put an extra car length more, redline, shift into 5th gear, let off gas...
So, to sum it up, from a roll 60-120, I put a car length and a half...his excuse?! That his top was down or it would have been dead even.
Point of my story is, does having the top up or down affect acceleration at high speeds?
Thanks alot!

Yes it makes a difference. Learn the physics of aerodynamics. I've reached speeds of 240km with top up then i've tried it with top down and I had a hard time reaching 210-220km. On the race track I would actually be 2-3 seconds slower in my lap time with top down.

Yes, for NA s2000's makes a difference. Simple the thread starter should just re race him both top up, or do vice versa and let him try top down and other top up and see what the outcome would be

when you open up you windows while driving and notice a force push up against your face as it cools you down on a hot sweaty day; your being punch in the face by drag, also known as air, creating a parachute effect inside the vehicle which will make the engine work harder hence requiring more hp to achieve same speeds.

Hmm...I never though it could make THAT much of a difference in a short sprint. I understand the windows down and the cabin being like a parachute but with the top down? I mean, sure you're still being pounded by the air but its still flowing thru and over you, maybe just not as smoothly as with the top and windows up.
We're getting together for a burger and HH later tonight so maybe after we'll both go at it top up. lol
