Even race. Published times are nearly identical, the cobra tends to trap 1-3 MPH faster.

98's are a little faster than the nearly identical 96 and 97 DOHC cobras -- theory being that they allowed them to run leaner for 15 seconds or so at WOT and produce a tinge more power.

..depends on the bolt ons on the cobra... they'll take much better to mods than the S will...... read this is as: "he'll be quicker, you'll be about the same".....

good luck, its always fun to pick on semi-stock mustangs

Get him out of his powerband...i raced a 2001 Cobra from ~55 to 105 and had about half a car on him...from a stop tho, you'll have a harder time.

Yep. I own a 96 cobra with bolt-ons, and I've raced a few s2k's. A buddy of mine has an 02 with an intake and exhaust, and the other an 04.

No disrespect to the s2k as I plan to get one, but when we ran it wasn't even close. We went from a dig and I shot out pretty hard, but even the roll races were pretty ugly. From 20, 40, and 60, I put at least 6-7 cars on them to 120mph.

I still think a stock cobra would walk them by a couple cars.

really now? I raced a stock 96 Cobra and beat it by 1 car... from 20-100! I wasn't too impressed and my passenger heard the mustangs shift they were far from slow so he was definitely trying. maybe bolt ons make a difference but stock I beat one considerably and still pulling a little more after 100 but the cobra let off. he was simply mad I think

I'm not up to date with my rsx mods ( i used to own an integra), but I thought after hondata, intake, exhaust, you can hit about 101mph or so with a good driver. That's pretty quick, and though we're a lot heavier, we have a huge tq advantage. I have no doubt rsx's pull hard up top, but things get ugly quick from a dig or slow roll.

With all cars, mods make a difference. The biggest thing these cars need is gears. After that, getting rid of the 4 cat midpipe and an intake seems to make a good difference. My car jumps pretty hard and I run even with a friend's camaro who runs 13.2 at 108mph. Also, I raced a stock 97 cobra and it was pretty bad, with me having a good 4-5 cars at the top of fourth.

Just for reference, the same 04 s2k outran a 02 gt with an exhaust from a 40 roll. He pulled about a 1.5 on the mustang to 90.
