Default S2K vs C5

Hey guys,

Ok so this is my first real street encounter.... So i thought i would share it with you all.

I went out with my friend's Marcus and Jeff... both S2ki members and s2k owners. Marcus didnt want to drive his turbo s2k, so he came along in my car and brought my video camera. Jeff went in his s2k. I'll preface this by saying that my car is not too healthy... I have a pretty bad knock coming from the motor, which is probably a 4th cylinder failure. My rational for taking a sick motored s2k aside, this is my story. We meet up at my place and head out on 287 north and pass morristown. We do a few runs and video jeff's new 70mm tlr single... The thing sounds amazing! I have a tlr 63mm with test pipe as my only mods other than a CTs/c w/ac. The ambient temperature is in the low to mid 40's.... perfect boost weather

I follow jeff onto rt23... I have never been on this road before, but it is really nice... with lots of 60-70mph sweepers... Some of the turns become a test of not pussying out and letting off the gas and hitting the brakes.... I let off the gas briefly and feel the back start to rotate which i quickly countermeasure by re-apply a decent amount of throttle... These are roads that need your full wit and a decent amount of talent... two things im lacking

We play around with some guy in a 06 nissan maxima who thinks he is god's gift to anything with 4 wheels and a combustion engine. As soon as that gets old i follow jeff for the U-turn to go back the same way we were coming from. As we cross the road and come to the stop sign a bright red C5 flies by! Jeff immediately goes for it as you can hear his exhaust scream and a little flame flies out of his noncatylzed exhaust on the 1 to 2. I follow in quick haste and catch up to jeff and the C5 which is slowing for a perfect 2 lane red light.... I couldnt have asked for anything better... except for a cop that was hiding behind us... thankfully i see him and slowly accelerate from the light... Jeff doesnt and floors it... letting everyone within a few miles know! I give a minute to check that the cop isnt following us, when the sight is clear, i run up to the corvette. As soon as i slow down to match bumpers he downshifts and starts accelerating! I quickly downshift to 2nd (we are doing about 50mph) and floor it. The world immediately slows down, my grip on the wheel becomes tighter, and my sight is set straight ahead. The C5 had gotten about a cars length ahead of me in my downshift to 2nd. That gap is quickly closed as i hit vtec... my exhaust screams, i shift to 3rd... i can feel my stock clutch slip for about a second and the c5 pulls ahead abit.... with his rear wheels to my front... as soon as my clutch bites i pick up the slack and start to pull ahead... not by much, but my bumper is in front... i shift to 4th and again my clutch slips and he does the same... the end of 4th gear and im alittle bit ahead and he lets off...

I was in absolute shock... i actually kept up with a C5! I still couldnt believe it... so i tried to do it again... but the guy kept speeding up whenever i tried to get close... so i gave up and went back to towards my house... I will try to post the videos as soon as possible! Thanks for reading guys!

This is disturbing. Yet you still drove and raced the car? I'm surprised you kept up with a C5 in that condition, despite having a supercharger.

This may not be your case, but sometimes knocking can come from usage of low octane, such as 87.

C5's are not as quick as most people say in stock form. I was riding in my friends Evo 8 MR with only ARC intake, and Hks Carbon Ti exhaust, and we raced an 02 C5 Vette from 60-100mph and we were dead even. After seeing the result I knew I'd destroy one then in my Stage 2 STi.

Up to mid-range, the C5 dyno is almost identical to the C5 Z06's, which is to say it is quite powerful. If you're thinking C5's are not "all that" you need to get in the driver's seat and take one for a spin.
