S2K vs. E55 AMG
My 1st run in along time today. I had just filled up with gas and had my clubs and 2 bags of golf balls in the trunk so she was loaded.
It was at the 4-way stop of New poag and University drive outside edwardsville heading towards 143.
I was coming to a stop and I glanced in my mirror and seen the mercedes behind me come around the corner pretty quick, I didnt think anything of it though . I stoped and let the other car cross and then rolled out in 1st then shifted to 2nd and was cruising 2nd at about 3500rpm, then I hear a v8 sound take off and I look in my mirror and the mercedes in coming fast so I punch it. He reaches me side by side and vtec engages at about that time so I didnt lose any ground. We were DEAD even up to 80-85 and he pulled a fender till about 90-95 and then I let out. I was suprised so I slowed a little to see what it was, it was a e55 amg. I speed up a bit to give him a
but then he took off again
, so I just let him go.
I think if I would have had my car in 1st when I heard him take off I could have had a better advantage, but o well

He (E55) obviously wasn’t racing… E55 AMG 0-60 mph at 4.2 ; 0-100 in 9.4 with 1/4 mile in low 12 sec… That is just general numbers from testing…
Road and Track squeezed a 13.9 1/4 mile and a 0-60 of 5.4 for the 2004 S2000 which has a 2.2L and better gearing that the 00-03 S2000’s…
Anything can occur on the street, but probably the E55 probably wasn’t “racing”… If he did go WOT, the outcome would have been more than a fender….

As I stated, anything can occur in a street race… The issue is, an E55 01-02 will trap mid 13’s… The OP stated he was in 2nd gear at 3500 rmps and hits the throttle, because he hears the MB go WOT… The E55 is WOT and the S2000 keeps up to 90… The S2000 is not in Vtec and does not have FI, so this is difficult to believe… Unless the E55 is 200 yards back…
Don’t know too many non FI S2000’s that can rocket from 2nd gear at 3500 rmps and be impressive... S2000 has no low end torque…
