Default S2K vs. M5

I encountered an M5 today. I was tailing him on the onramp for the freeway and he took off. I followed him but he didn't pull on me, I was on his tail all the way to 130 and I let go. I wonder if that was a true M5 because it had an aftermarket exhaust but it was only dual pipe instead of quad. It had all the wheels and body kit of the M5. Shouldn't the M5 be faster.

If he was right behind him, could he have been drafting? Would that make much of a difference?

Yea, as others have said, it was either a riced 5 series (likely a 540 with probably no mods other than badges as they run as fast or even faster than s2ks up top stock), or perhaps a real m5 that was not being pushed. One of my good friends just bought a 2002 sterling silver m5..the torque in that beast is unbelievable not to mention the pull. You'd need a sc or a turbo (and both would need to be well tuned) to show up an e39 m5..

Probably not an M5, those things move out on the freeway.

I'd love to have one.

It was a fake M5...it only had the exhaust to the left. This guy went through the whole trouble of getting all the M5 spoiler package, even the trunk lid, and had the wheels too. Why would people put stuff that is not true?
