A couple weeks ago I was driving around with one of my buddies and a WRX comes up from behind us. He passes me, I checked out his car, it wasn't an STI but I could hear a BOV hissing. I let him go by, thinking little of it. A few seconds later his flashers come on. Needless to say, at this point I couldn't resist. Still confused about his car, and not knowing what I should expect from the race, we lined up about 40. We both hit it at the same time and were running dead even. At some point, probably around 80, my buddy says "He's got you." It still seemed even to me, but I guess he was starting to inch up a little. Once I went to 4th he started to pull a little more. I shut down around 120 with my front bumper at his back bumper. The guy slowed down and traded a then the guy holds up some box thing and says something that I can't make out. My buddy tells me that he said something about "being on fuel savings mode", which doesn't mean much to me, but maybe it does to some of you. I woulda loved to drop off my passenger and put the top up for another run but I guess I'll have to take the "L" on this one. WRX: 1, S2k: 0

 

Probably had a boost controller of some kind and was running low boost hence the "fuel saving mode". Sounds like if you were running with the top up you would have probably been able to stay ahead. In any case good run, wrx can be made very fast with very little $$$$

 

I think the wrx have some mod under the engine. I raced one before around 40mph and it looked stock to me, and also have new plate too. I raced him till around 80mph, and his front bumper was at my rear bumper. My car is stock too, btw.

 

My guess is that he had a Cobb Accessport and was running the less aggressive fuel saving map. Basically, it would have been worse if he was running his regular baseline map. He is probably at least stage 2.

 

Stage 2 access port. Why he was running it still plugged in though is anyones guess. Once you do the flash you take it off, unless he was trying to do some sort of diagnostic with it. I'm not even sure you can with that thing. Either that or he just had it in his car unplugged and was showing it off.

 

 

I don't think the box thing was plugged in, he was just showing it off.

 

Actually, it has the ability to switch between maps on the fly. He could have been going on a long trip, so he was running the fuel savings map. While traveling he could stop at a nice restaurant that has valet service, so then he could then swith it to the valet map (It won't rev past 3000 rpm I believe). Then, after dinner he might decide to go to the drag strip and switch it back to the 93 octane base line map in order to .

Or maybe he just drives with the damn thing plugged in trying to look cool. Either way, if I owned a WRX or STI, I would definitely have one of those bad boys.

 

So basically it was modded. A stock one would fall back (far) as soon as you punch it.
