First off, as a disclaimer, it was hot and humid out tonight...but enough of the excuses.
I was at Speedworld here in Arizona tonight at their "Street Legal" drag event, with a car-show and everything.
Saw a silver S2000, and a dark blue 350Z with a rice wing run, among other cars.
These are the ones I witnessed from both cars...I almost cried.
(Didn't/couldn't really pay attention to the traps...they were flashing them in and out so fast)
S2000:
1st run: 15.00
2nd run: 15.44
3rd run: 16.08
350Z:
1st run: 15.01
2nd run: 15.32
3rd run: 15.88
4th run: 15.40
If any of these guys are here, and I remembered wrong, I apologize, but, most of you will get the gist of it. My friend that was there with me who himself owns a Spa Yellow, was seriously considering coming over to the S owner and volunteer to drive his car...he was getting embarrassed for him.
About the excuse that it was hot and humid, consider this: this was a night where the WRX's were all running mid-14's or better, and a mildly-modded RSX Type S ran a 14.7. To add insult to injury, the barely-modified Civic Si's and good-running Integras were running the same times as these guys, and there were modified hatches that ran between 11's to high 14's.
All the domestics were running great, except for the Mustangs. The fastest the '99+ 'Stangs, including a couple of Mach1's ran was a 14.6. The mildly-modded Fox-bodies barely broke 15's, with low 15's being the norm, with this one red one running a consistent 14.7. Although the fastest car of the night was an NHRA-qualified Mustang(NOT close to street-legal) that ran an 8.43, and there were a couple highly-modded ones in the 12's/11's. There was also a black EVO VIII that ran a best of 14.3.
As for the other, miscellaneous runs, there was a stock Z06 that ran a best of 12.90, against a modified Formula Firebird that ran a 13.0X, a sleeper 80-something T-bird that ran 11's, and a bunch of other runs that'd take pages and pages to retell.
Anyhow, thanks for reading, and I'm off to bed...

In Houston (read: hot and humid), I can click off 14.0's at 100mph every now and then.
I think those boys just didn't know how to drive.
Also, the 350Z may have been an automatic.

I forgot to mention the difference in driving styles between the two cars.
The S2000 seemed to take-off like he was cruising from a stop-light. My friend, the S owner, was commenting about "You can't be launching from 1,000RPMs...".
The 350, which I'm sure was a manual, would sit there and spin first and second gears, and play catch-up at the end.
One guy was babying his car, which I don't understand why he would decide to show up for a locally publicized event if he was babying his car, and the other didn't know how to modulate his throttle.

Watching someone launch their car at a dragstrip as if they're exiting a Burger King drive-thru rivals the pain created from a two-hour video of Oprah Gone Wild.
I mean, why bother? You don't have to abuse your car but damn...a 16.0 second 1/4 mile in a 2780-lb, 240-hp automobile begs the question...what was he towing?

I went to the drag strip for the first time and had a hell of a time trying to launch.
I have launched in the street twice with no problem, but at the track it was another story.
So I don't blame these guys if it was their first times racing.
1/8 mile is what I ran.
My best run was 9.5 at 76 mph
2.422 60ft
1.33 reaction time
My reaction time sucked but more practice will help even though I don't think I will be going again.
Not to get off track but is a 9.5 average for s2000.
Thanks
Chris

A 9.5 1/8th will net you about a 14.6-14.7 @ 96-97 mph. A little on the slow side if you consider a 14.2-14.3 to be about normal for an average S2000 owner. However, we must also consider the conditions. If you've been running in California lately, the weather has been costing you a few tenths at least.
