Default SC S2000 vs SC Cobalt

So a buddy and I are out cruising around the other night with the top down (beautiful night). We're pulling out of In & Out behind a Navy Blue SS SC Cobalt, get up next to him at a light (a few cars in front of us) and recognize the guy from months ago when he had a truck... We kind've play cat and mouse for awhile and head for the freeway.

Initial impressions- those things are torque monsters and with intake / exhaust are loud as hell. We get on the freeway (no one around) and hit it- I'm at the top of second, he gets about a half car because of the torque jump, hit third and put about three cars on him, hit fourth and get another few lengths, hit fifth and we're about seven or eight lengths up, hit sixth and we're ten to twelve lengths ahead. I think it would've been quite a bit worse for him if I had been sans passenger and had the top up.

I'm CTSC w/o AC, 4.57's, and test pipe.

Those things with a pulley and software would be a pretty serious problem; especially for a stock S... I think a stock S2000 could hang on the freeway, and maybe come out on top- but I dunno... He said they dyno 200 to the wheels stock pretty frequently, and I've heard that GM underrates the EcoTec's, but not sure if by that much.

Time for smaller pulley and aftercooler I guess.

They have a factory stage 1 & 2 for them. It's great when a car company supports the aftermarket.

i've been lurking on the cobaltss.net, those guys are getting some very good numbers outta the ecotech 2.0. stage 2 is 245 AT THE WHEELS. some of those guys are going 13.5's at 110! i guess they max out at 20psi(thats all the stock head'll flow) but a decent little car. i'd pick one over a srt4 anyday.

I dunno.. I kinda dig the exhaust note of the SRT4's... The interior on the Cobalt seemed a little cheap... It had like 5000 miles on it and the shift knob was missing the shift pattern badge / sticker. Nice seats though.

It may just be the younger generation or maybe even a local thing, but nearly every domestic I race and beat always declares they're stock. Some guy with a Mustang GT (not SVT) and a whining supercharger tried to tell me that... I usually work on complimenting and expressing interest in their cars (win or lose), and never get any reciprocal love, I guess it's an insecurity thing or something...

I've ran a saturn ion redline w/intake about 3 times (same motor i believe, same car almost???) and yeah they're pretty quick. The intake screams and they do keep up. I came out about a car ahead from 20-110ish w/top up and no passenger and im stock. They could be major sleepers w/some ecu, intake, exhaust and pulley work.
Nice run though, i'd love to have a CTSC installed on mine, but i gotta wait i guess...
