Default Schooled by a VOLVO?

I was sitting at a red light with the top down last monday. I looked over to the line of cars next to me (four lanes) didn't see anything interesting. I hit the gas hard reved out first then shifted into second around 5000 rpm I was going to go into third when I realized this guy in a black volvo station wagon was beating me. The clutch went back in and I put it back into second and took off like a rocket red lined and then into third around the bend I made up time but he was still slightly ahead of me at 90 mph. I have no doubt that if I had noticed that he was racing me before I hit the clutch that I could've beat him out but dude it's a stinking volvo station wagon. Can anyone speculate what kind it is? Must be turbo charged and intercooled. I didn't see that one coming...

It sounds like the Type R Volvo with 300hp they came out with last year. Test drove one and it's not bad for the money.

I used to have a Volvo 850 Turbo. Stock is 235 HP I believe running on 5 cylinders. Not too shabby, but they are heavy. I use to love my Volvo.

There are some kits available with a straight pipe and bigger turbo. The 850R has even more HP stock and is quicker. Thats probably what you came across unless the standard Turbo had quite a bit of work done.

Was it a type R or R type? Whichever, those R models are pretty quick...

No 'type' needed. Just plain 'R'

Was it really square like a 700 series or a 200 series, or was it a little rounder ? If it was an older one they are RWD. IN the early 90's the company punked out and started making everything FWD.

Saw my first S60-R yesterday in DC, coupe, in silver, with fairly nice body panels (stock?). I hate myself for saying this, but it looked real good. Slower than the S though.
