Default should I have beat him? (M5)

coming home from work tonight I'm crusing along at 72 mph hour when this M5 flys past me then slows as if to wait for me too catch up. being on cruise control i pass him up since he's slowed to like 60 mph. He catches back up to me and stays right to the left of me kinda by the rear wheel, doing that whole step-on-gas, let-off-gas, step-on-gas, let-off-gas thing.

Kind of annoyed I down shift to 3rd...maybe a little to low of a gear (new to S2000 power) and I scream off, I know I got a good jump on him but I kow he floored it after me cus he was staying with me for a few seconds before I slowly crept away at like a lil over 100mph...maybe alot over ... (something I rarely do)

I slowed back to my 72 mph and he caught up to me but stayed about 3-4 car lengths behind me....

Should I have pulled him like that or did I just get lucky...I know the M5 is a big car but I still thought he would've pulled on me if he wanted to.

New M5 or older?

If its a new M5, from a highway roll, it will beat an M3...if that gives you any idea...

the e34's were relatively underpowered for a vehicle of its size, but more likely the m5 you raced was an e39 m5 (current model), in which case he was either toying with you or left it in 6th gear

I ran with a current gen M5 (while driving my brother's Lexus GS400) on the 405 freeway. It was a 20-30 year-old female driver. She spanked me like a spoiled child (60-95mph run). It was ugly. But it was exciting in more than one way.

(BTW, the GS400 is about the same league as the S so I know my S wouldn't have kept up).

There are some videos out there were a stock M5 edges out a stock Viper on a highway run. Not bad for a car with room for 5. Now if they only made a wagon....

They did make a wagon, but not in the E39...at least on these shores.

they made e39 wagons everywhere, but never has there been an m5 touring - not officially, at least. there' the following pic - it's a bmw-built M5 Touring, made for one of the big guys at BMW...
