Default Signs of NOs?

The wife and I took a ride to the beach today. On the way back a guy comes from way back on the freeway and pulls next to me. My S2000 is basically stock except for air filter and exhaust system. I think the guy in the Eclipse, which looked modified, with all the plastic add ons and all wanted to try an S2000. So he drops back because of traffic and then I see him in my rear view. There seems to be quite a bit of white smoke and he accelerates up to even with me.

Shortly after this a Mercedes 500, quite nice and with indications of mods (sharp duel exhaust, big tires, etc) pulls in and they take off through traffic. Last I saw they were making an off ramp at too much speed. The racing was foolishness - traffic was way to heavy and there was nowhere to go.

From what I saw, I thought my S2000 would pull the Eclipse easy from 50 mph (our speed). I'm not sure about the Benz.

I just wonder if such a puff of white smoke indicates NOs? That Eclipse had more than factory under the hood. What do you think?

I used to own an Eclipse - a GSX turbo. Every day, the first time I romped on the gas, I would leave a large cloud of smoke behind me. This is even after I got Mitsu to replace my turbo Twice ! Later, I got water in the engine and had to have two engine rebuilds - and it still blew smoke after all of that. I started taking off quickly once before I got to the interstate each day so I wouldn't leave a cloud on the on-ramp. Anyway, it may have been just a stock engine that blew smoke. Was it one of the new model years or an older one? The new ones are V6s. Mine was a turbo 4.

BTW - Many late model cars (like my old Eclipse) have the air intake very low on the car. Don't risk driving through standing water; you may wreck your engine like I did. I saw other cars going over this road with fairly deep standing water and figured I could too. Well, I only made it halfway.

This was the newer model - V6 engine. It was quite tricked on the outside. Ground effects kit, rear spoiler, paint job, wheels and tires. Really a great looking car! I was going through Riverside (California) when this happened. On that same short drive I had 3 cars wanting to race. Maybe I was too close to the Riverside Raceway or something

I've never heard of white smoke (usually signs of oil consumption). Almost every high-performance engine will shoot out a little black smoke out the tailpipes under heavy loads. Of course, almost every high-performance engine eats a little oil too, but it shouldn't eat enough to shoot out a white cloud (burned oil).

Most hightly mods car have a buff of white smokes coming out of the pipe when shifting at hight rpm. I've noticed that it always happen on turbocharged cars, everytime they shift smokes just puff out. I think it's pretty cool, unless there's something wrong with the motor.
About the eclipse: It's a very capable car, pretty easy to make it hit 12sec. So, listen for his BOV, if it's loud, chances are he's running hight boost.
