Default Slapped a WRX

Don't you hate "racers" that never let you pull up alongside of them and just take off first chance they get so they can be "winning" their races? Today I was cruising with a friend top down, enjoying the south florida sun when I see a blue WRX a couple cars ahead. I make a couple easy moves to get behind him, nothing threatening or aggressive hoping to be able to creep up on his side and get a good run. We both make the right turn onto another street that is empty for a couple hundred yards. Immediately i'm thinking perfect place to run, so I slow way down for the turn but the WRX takes it as hard as possible. He's about 4 full car lengths ahead of me and I try to accelerate a little bit to get up with him, but the guy is just going all out flooring his car. I get on my throttle and from 40 - 85 I make the deficit up nearly to his rear bumper when we have to slow for the light. I'm alongside him now looking over at him, but he's just looking forward with his "game face" on. So there's a car in front of both of us at the red, i'm thinking we'll roll out real slow and do a nice first, second gear pull. I thought wrong, light turns green he gets up on the car in front of him's butt and first opening he gets passes him aggressively and takes off AGAIN. I let him go a bit because I hate dealing with people that think weaving in and out of cars is some sort of skillz. Next red light is a left turn lane and we're both in the outside left turn lane, i'm behind him, he's the first at the light. Again, there is an open road after the left so i'm really trying to get this guy to run me evenly. Light turns green and the kid goes off as hard as possible with me behind him(damn those WRXs have some body roll). I go off easy thinking I can get him to slow down but figure screw it i'll just play his game since there was enough road up ahead. I'm in VTEC before the turn is over and pulling hard. The WRX is about 3 - 4 full cars ahead of me in the middle lane and he was on his WOT way before I am. I took my turn hard to the outside(right) lane. Open stretch of road, so here we go. I slam second and purposely switch over to the middle lane behind him. I'm closing in on his bumper real quick, slam 3rd and now switch to the left lane where I overtake him and pull about half a car on him when I proceed to just pace his driver window. Still nothing...the kid will not acknowledge the S2000 even with VTEC in his ear. Oh well, had fun and I slowed down while he just flew by and continued ripping through the ahead traffic like an animal. I really want to race one of these from a complete stop to see what they can pull with the AWD launches.

Well if the WRX is stock then its going to pull on you for 1st and the first part of 2nd, but once you hit 3rd you will pull on him... a LOT.

Last time I checked, the 0-60 time isn't much slower, if at all.

I have a friend with a 2002 WRX and he and I run neck & neck up to about 90 mph. At 90 mph the S2000 really takes off or the WRX slows down and the gap starts to open. Up in the mountains he cannot even think of staying with me in the twisties. The WRX is a cool car, I have considered purchasing one for the Colorado winters.

Ahh, high elevation and turbos. Up there, the WRX has an advantage compared to down at more typical elevations. I'm surprised you can even pull on him up at 90 mph.

It's called 4th gear. Once the WRX hits fouth there is no power unless a turbo swap has been done. S2k is nice, but the WRX still eats it's lunch up here!

I have driven a stock WRX a few times. To be honest, it's power is weak after 1st gear. It just seems to go so slow after that. (i'm used to that 2nd gear VTEC) The biggest reason for a WRX running the ET's and 0-60's that it does, is it's launch. But after 1st gear, a stock WRX is a dog. An S2000 vs a WRX in a 2nd gear roll would be no contest. The S2000 would pull HARD.
