Well Didn't really smoke a cop, but I sure lost him.
I was headed north bound on California Hwy 154 (San Marcos Pass) from Santa Barabara to Santa Ynez. Well following a bunch of blue hairs that don't know what slow car turn outs are for is a bit tiring. So after cresting the top of the pass I passed a LOT of people, ended up doing 90 in a 55MPH Zone. Well there were a number of other cars that followed, but I was way out in front. Went around a corner and what should be taking our speed was a radar unit headed south. Too late for me, or so I thought. Well he didn't pull out immediately so I didn't really slow down much (maybe to 75 MPH). About a mile or so down the road I saw flashing red lights coming around a corner and over a hill. I immedately took the next right off of 154 (FR-5N18), and then another right (Stagecoach Rd) and headed south back to Santa Barabara. I decided I didn't really want to see the cop again. Fortunately there were so many trees, hills and corners I was gone. I'm not sure he was after me, but if I were he, I would have been toast.
The moral of the story is, if you're ever headed to Santa Barabara from the North, REALLY take Stagecoach road. Its awesome. The twistiest, road in the area that can still be driven at 45+. And should you really want some more fun, take W Camino Cielo after the crest of the Pass and follow that all the way to Gibralter Rd and follow that down to Foothill Rd in Santa Barabara.
The cop got the adrenaline going and the road kept it going.
