Default Spinning (and I don't mean bicycles)

Last year my '01 S spun out on wet pavement when I shifted 2nd to 3rd at maybe 6K rpm going in a staight line. I went off the road backwards at approx a 45 degree angle. I missed a steel light pole by inches, bounced over a curb then over a sidewalk and, finally over a cement car-stopper block. I ended up perfectly parked between a van and a car. No injuries and no damage except for a slight dent in one of the chrome exhaust tips. I did not trust the car after that. Reading that the '04 S (in addition to other improvements) had a revised rear suspension aimed at countering the aforementioned instability I traded my '01 on an '04. Then, last weekend, with just over 200 miles on it damned if the '04 didn't do the same thing; again whilst going in a straight line. Not so lucky this time I slammed the rear driver side wheel sideways against an 8" high curb. Repair bill $3300. Now, I'm not some hot headed 20 something (I'm 73 and my other car is an '03 WRX, plus I ride a 650 Honda Hawk GT) and I've owned dozens of sports cars over the years. Has anyone else had similar experiences with this car. It's getting kinda hard to trust. So far I've been lucky to exit the highway away from oncoming traffic BUT... The UK "CAR" magazine after extolling the S's engine pithilly referred to the other characteistic saying "hedges, backwards. Comments etc.?

how fast were you going? Driving fast in a wet environment is a no no. I don't care what kind of car you have, sooner or later you will hit something or worse, somebody. I can't believe that it happened to you twice. You never learn, do you?

Once, while showing off, I so terribly fouled my revmatch into 2nd, locking the rear tires, sending me sideways at 70mph through the ditch. I shattered the left-rear brake rotor, cracked the lip off the left-rear wheel, destroyed the halfshaft and diff, and tore out the inner wheel well as I impacted a concrete manhole (that stuck up out of the grass by 2ft). And, as it was a steep ditch, every single body panel was tweaked (doors and trunk would not close) from severely contacting the grass. Purely driver error, but a wreck, nonetheless.

BTW, DeluxeS2k, how many times have you bit your tongue? I can't believe that it could happen any more than once.

Dam, One time it was late like 3 a.m. and it had poured all day, and I was just starting to get familiar w/peeling out, and getting sideways through turns and donuts and shyt like that...well I whiped it around a U turn and started fishtailing all through 1st, and I felt comfortable so I shifted into 2nd and still gravy, well I hit 3rd and just started whiping out of control! It was crazy, but I managed to keep the car "somewhat" under control, it just did a back and forth from left to right lane thing but I ended up faceing oncomeing traffic (luckly no 1 was on the road) That defenitaly had me shook for a couple of days! But that was all driver error. Ever since, I don't mess around when I see water!

i just did the same thing in november! i was at a red light and i took it from a roll up about 7500 rpm... shifted into 2nd... by the way, it was very cold out and i had pretty bald tires...i hit 2nd and the ass end slid out and i oversteer the other way and hit the side walk curb and then over a cement car blocker.... the only damage was knuckle assembly new rotor and brake pad and lower tie rod.... about 400 dollars... i fix it all next day and got an alligenment plus had it looked over..... i was very lucky but very suprised at hw the car held up so well.... it drives just as good if not better now.... i have all the damaged parts hanging on my wall in my bedroom as a reminder......oh yeah i destroyed my rear rim... so i went out and bought 4 new aftermarket ones

Wet roads give me the jitters. Never had a really bad experience but it just isn't the same as dry. This car will twitch on wet roads when vtec engages. Just be careful and keep a safe distance.

I'd like to lift my nose and tell you all that you need more training -- but the reality is that I too (while jacking around) have spun the S in the cold and in the rain.

The reality is that you need to be on top of your game to drive the car in the cold, and especially in cold and wet weather.

this car is hard to control in the wet....ive spun out in the snow..i know you shouldn't drive this car in the snow but i didn't have a choice that night...repairs cost me around $2000...and in the wet its very twitchy so i drive slower since i have spun on wet pavement many times so far...i seem to be learning at a slow rate =)....rwd sucks on WET PAVEMENT good luck to you all and try driving slower in the rain before you get into a bigger mishap

Fortunately, I don't bite my tongue very often, and if I did it once, unintentionally, I would not do it again. Making the kind of mistake like this twice would make me think very carefully the next time before I step into a car and drive in a wet weather.
