Default Stock MY04 VS IS350

I have been under the impression they are both about even with a slight advantage to the IS at faster speeds. I saw a beautiful IS350 tonight on the deserted empty area of road that I use to get home from my g/f's house. We had plenty of road and were going about 60mph when we both hit it, we went up to about 100mph before shutting down. We were dead even, I was a bit ahead but I think I started a tad ahead. When I hit redline in 4th (remember its an AP2) I shifted to 5th and he gained a tiny bit, but I quickly made that up.

When we got off the highway and got to a stop he lowered his window and we chatted for a bit. I complimented his nice new car and he asked if I had gears yet. I told him no I didn't (hence stock) and he told me his plans to turbocharge his car. I told him it was pretty quick stock for being so big, I asked him if he was at WOT back there and he said no, not even close? First of all I'm not sure how you race someone like that without flooring it. I'm thinking he was full of it, especially since he asked if I had gears?

The only X-factor was my top was down. How big of a differance should that make? Should he have pulled away from me if my top was down 60mph-100?

I tried to run him again at slower speeds but he peeled out after the stop and I refuse to launch in an area where there is even the remote chance of another person getting close (actually for that matter, I don't launch my car at all lol). So without a launch it wasn't even close, he was gone.

hahha.. *not even close* you should have said, nice driving there toretto. hahah, racing without being floored, i love that one. its most widely used by guys with V8's. what a clown. sounds about right though, the race that is. if youd have had top up, you should have moved on him a bit. i dont have any problem with them at all, then again, i havent talked to any of the people who ran me in them, i dont know if they are manual, auto, broken in etc. so , thus far, i dont have any conclusion, other than that, they may be a tad faster than your average 350Z. lates dave

There are no manual IS350's. They all have the a slush box with paddle fake-manual mode. I test drove one a couple of times. Stock for stock and in a straight line I think I'd bet on the IS. While the suspension and steering truly suck, the motor is a beast and it takes less talent to go fast.

wide open throttle. petal to the metal.

about the is350... if you check their forums.. they are getting consistant 13.6 qtr mile times stock.. and its auto so shifting doesnt really matter. this would make them quicker than our cars.. their 0-60 is rated at 5.3 or something.. and the is350 was hitting 13.7 by car and driver magazine drivers. on there forum, some guy got 13.3 qtr mile with just stripping some interior (about 70 lbs worth I believe) and sound deadening equipment.

oh yea about your race.. im not taking anything away from your victory but the is350 have a "power" button that makes them shift higher? im not sure about the details but maybe the button was off?

nice kill

No your not taking anything away at all, I fully expected to lose or at least for it to be close. Thats why I was shocked that with the top down, I hung from 60-100.

I imagine if it was a fully out race down the quarter of if we kept going, he would have pulled away. I was just shocked that it was pretty even at that point, I figured the top down would have been enough to let him pull me.

I ran into one of these last nite. Hadnt seen one before, it looked smart, and I wasnt sure how powerful they are (I guessed 300HP). I gave the guy the nod and he nodded back and then dropped a gear and floored it. There was loads of traffic and I had my pregnant wife in the car. Not sure what he was trying to prove

Anywho, pretty sure he would get spanked by me, listening to your opinions as I will own a stock S. Hopefully I will run into him again at a better time

the is350's are pretty quick, I had one pull on my brother while going up a hill, and he has a modified 350z and can drive very well. I underestimated them in the beginning, but now have more respect for the sedan.

05 EVO 8 with turboback (the catback is in at the moment), reflash, drop in filter.
