Default Street encounters going wrong.......

I am curious how many of you good people here have experienced street encounters going drastically wrong. I am not going to go into details about times and places but here a 2 of mine. Its been several months but we were cruising down the highway and a brand spanking new lightning wanted to play. Let me say I give the highest of props for the trucks handling,as far as trucks go. Let me emphasis for a truck. Well I passed him and got closed in between a few grandmas and he sped right by, he soon had to slow and I closed on him at about 120 then we both got the open spot and sped to around 135. Alas what did we see on the right emergency lane.......oh yes our good friend John Q Law. I hit my breaks and slowed down before the other guy even saw the cop. When he saw the cop it was brake locking madness, I assume that these trucks dont have any species of ABS on them. And starting fishtailing violently at 120+. He did this back and forth a few times until grabbing a shooting across 3 lanes into the right side retainer wall. His tires blew off like in nascar and one even skimmed the top of my car. I am sorry to say but I didnt stick around to find out how he was. But it was pretty bad, although he hit and slid more than hit and stopped. The other was an eclipse GSX that was modded and we played for a while in and out of traffic. 130,140,125 up and down for a few minutes, and for all of you that hate street encounters and wreckless driving you would have been pissed at the sight of this. But we held the line in and out of traffic until we got suspicious of cops and let off. He then pulled a couple hundred yards on us and topped a little rise in the road. The next thing we knew there were lights pointing the wrong way at us and then gone again, then back and gone again. It didnt click at first but he had attempted a 4 lane jumped due to an influx of traffic and went into a Maverick/Goose flat spin. Soon to inpact with a not so forgiving concrete wall. But they were ok we came back in a few minutes to check. Anyways sorry it was so long, just curious if there is anymore dirt you folks would like to share.

Well this is not really a "street encounter" per say. Was cruising down the feeder up to a light. It was left only and the light was green. I was in the out side lane going about 30mph or so and made the left turn. There were two cars behind me, one was an SUV, the other was a nissan sentra or something along those lines. Well, I have no idea what these two people were thinking, but they tried to make the same turn as I did at the same speed. Well, needless to say, the SUV sort of slid into the nissan sentra's lane, luckly the sentra slid into the curb. Had to laugh at the whole situation

Locking up the wheels at any speed is dangerous. As soon as that Lightning started to fishtail all he had to do is let off the brake and everything would have been fine.

I had a recent close call that I'll share. There is a highway exit into downtown that I take every day into work. It is a two lane curved and banked exit to the left (freeway is one way at this spot). Most cars can only comfortably take the exit at about 35-40 MPH. Often the right hand lane is wide open, and the "slow" cars are in the left-hand lane. If no one is in the right-hand lane I'll take the turn at 60-65 MPH. 65 MPH is what is the maximum speed I can take the turn comfortably.

A few weeks ago I had both lanes wide open, and I was stuck on my 65 MPH mark/goal. I noticed some thing smeared in the right-hand lane after I went through the first half of the turn. At first glance it looked like some sort of roadkill, with guts smeared/tracked down the road. I don't think this is what it was, but that was my first thought. I ran right over it. As I get passed the bulk of the "material" The car begins to slide to the left, silently. I casually straightened it out, and when I did I was halfway in the left-hand lane and halfway in the right-hand lane. If anyone had been next to me I would have nailed them.

While this reminds me that "you never know what might happen" out on the road, it also made me feel pretty confident about our car taking turns at greater speeds. I've done plenty of power slides at 35-45 MPH with over-steer "correction", but nothing before at 65 MPH...just glad I know that it still reacts the same.

Well Wes, let me say good save on the roadkill smear, leave it to the texas roads in that dept. But just FYI, the car recovers well even from 100 mph drifts..........no that I would know, wink wink.

I once did what the Lightning did because some person went right into my lane without signal at a much slower speed. I wasn't speeding either. But unlike the Lightning, I have ABS brakes.

When the person changed lanes, he/she was so close to my front bumper that I had to immediately brake or else the person's car might have been toasted.

I hit the brakes pretty hard and swerved for a little bit but got it back in control and just let the car cruise for a bit and that was that.

Oh yea, not to mention, this was my first day with my car. Brand spanking new. I hate driving through LA.

I was turning onto the highway when no one was around. I always take that turn hard because it goes under an overpass and as we all know our S2K's sound great under an overpass. Anyway, I didn't think I took it faster than usual, but I spun out, jumped a curb, and did $3,000 damage to the underside of my S2K. The road wasn't even wet. The worst thing about the entire thing, is now I'm freaked out taking any turns...I won't go above 10 MPH. Would an X-brace would have prevented this?

Ya, me and this guy in a white teg were heading down the 15 at 110+. Really cool at this speed because all the people around us look like they are going, like, 50. Anyway, all was good until he tried to cut me off. He lost it and spun out, top gun style, and went through the ditch between the two roads. Once he got to the otherside some bitch in a civic hit him. I think there were two kids in the backseat. Anyway, lots of white matter everywhere and stuff. I didn't wait around to find out how it all turned out. She really should have been paying attention to what was going on. She could have missed him............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...............Actually, this did happen though I was not involved. I think there were three fatalities. People really shouldn't be driving at these speeds with others around. You never know what might happen!

You refer to her as a bitch and he was the ****ing idiot who was driving 110+ on a public road and couldn't keep control of his car. That is messed up man. Thats like blaming the highway department for planting a tree on the side of a road that a drunk driver runs into. Bullshit.

Texasman:

I have to say that I agree with you. High speed driving isnt something to take lightly and you should have the most respect for everyone else as you can. I know we can all get off the wall sometimes. But a mom and some kids, thats horrible.
