Actually, I was pretty impressed with most of what they wrote. I don't know a thing about any of the VW lineup. Most of those guys have an idea about the s2000 and had some positive comments.

Of course, there's always the few tools....just like this site.

They're not.

This is stock 04 gti 1.8t .

Curb weight 3050 lb

180 hp, 173 lb-ft;

I don't see why they brag some much about their car. Doesn't look all that faster than a stock s2000. Actually by the numbers it is slower than an s2000. He is not going to get 50 horse from a chip and an exhaust. So I don't see how he thinks he is going to pull on the s2000.

well they are turbo so depending on how much the chip raises the boost, they could gain a decent amount of power with few mods

still a car making less than 200rwhp and weighing more shouldnt be able to keep up

Curb weight is 2934

Chip and turboback exhaust will net 200-210whp...

edit: sorry weight was wrong...

They could gain nice numbers. But I don't think it's enough like some of the vw guys are claiming to make it an easy victory on the part of the 1.8.

Not like I like these threads but lets break this down. If you weigh in at 2934 and end up with 210 at the wheels you get 13.9lb/hp. The S2000 is at 2835 and up with 200 at the wheels you get 14.175lb/hp. So theoretically (depending on gearing differences and actual power under the curve) the GTI could win. Thats a stock S. Now take some of us that have gone FI and that GTI no longer stands a chance. So stock for Stock the GTI gets no win. A couple grand and the GTI stands a chance in the straight but will never stand a chance in the twisties. Hence the reason why us S2k guys don't really care and are very happy with our cars stock. At least till we get beat in the straights by a viper and then decide we want the best of both worlds. Straight and corners. :-).
